WhatHouse? takes a look at this unique show home in Clapham and finds out some of the style details room by room...

Located just moments from Clapham Common and Clapham Old Town, Bentley’s Yard in St Alphonsus Road is a new development of six unique townhouses.

Designed by award-winning architect Studio Egret West, and constructed by indigoScott, a private development company based in South West London, these townhouses are the ultimate in contemporary design for modern living.

With 20 years experience, indigoScott specialise in the niche property market, focusing on individuality, attention to detail and are passionate about designing bespoke homes.

WhatHouse? spoke with Sharon Scott, director of indigoScott to find out more about the interiors and the inspiration behind the homes: “The design for Bentley’s Yard was inspired by the local Clapham Common idiom of Victorian terraced houses, but re-interpreted to facilitate our 21st century connected lifestyle. We worked with SEW, innovative and award-winning architects of the local Clapham Library to design these six stunning four-bedroom homes."

"The linked and open plan reception space over three floors were designed to provide fantastic drama and light, which add real energy to these very different properties. The upward view of geometrically ascending stairs from the double height lower ground floor is a particular favourite, together with the soaring five-storey raw brick wall. These stock bricks were carefully selected to reflect local Victorian materials - but reinterpreted to be worn on the inside instead of the outside. We feel they bring a grounded and architectural vibe to the development."Interconnecting mezzanine levels
The accommodation in each of the townhouses is spread over several interconnecting mezzanine levels with extra tall and double-height ceilings, creating separate areas for comfort, entertaining and relaxation. Bedroom with en suite
Each of the bedrooms has fitted wardrobes offering plenty of storage space and either an en suite or a dedicated bathroom.En suite bathroom
"We wanted this kitchen to provide a wonderful heart to the home - in every sense. We were privileged to work with Chantel Elshout Design Consultancy to create these stylish kitchens, which include a beautiful timber breakfast bar, wine fridge and quooker tap – all the mod cons that the Victorians could only have dreamed of!"

A glance from the kitchen-dining room reveals a cosy dining terrace to the side, a fantastic double height reception space below and a more formal reception room in another direction.
The houses are topped by two further roof terraces with another personal favourite; fantastic views of the nearby soaring church spire, jumble of Victorian rooftops, and the iconic London City skyline.Roof terrace

Susan says: "Our aim was for Bentley’s Yard to provide very cool and very flexible homes for both work and play; we hope we have succeeded.”
