News in brief from the new homes scene, Week 20 2017

Posted 18 May 2017 by Keith Osborne

We take a look at events, launches and special offers relating to new homes developments up and down the UK this week...

May has been a very busy month for the UK’s new homes industry, and this week is no exception, with another wave of launches, events and special offers to house-hunters across the UK…

Open House event at Lancaster development this Saturday

Housebuilder Redrow is marking New Homes Week in the North West of England with an Open House event at its Riverside View development in Lancaster this weekend, on Saturday 20 May.

The Lancastrian development actually has two distinct parts – part of Riverside View offers house types from Redrow’s Arts & Crafts-inspired Heritage Collection (from £109,995 for a one-bedroom flat) , while Abobe at Riverside View provides more contemporary designs (from £219,995) – so there’s something for to attract a real mix of house-hunters.

“Show homes are wonderful for demonstrating individual designs, layouts and specification, and for highlighting just how wonderful a particular home is or could be for an individual,” says Claire Jarvis, sales director for Redrow Homes (Lancashire). “But no-one knows a person’s home or dreams like they do and so Open House events also give customers the chance to see the home just as it is, stripped bare; it allows them to imagine how they would furnish it, what they would do in this room or that room, whether their sofa would look better in the lounge or the family area – and whether it would fit.”

This development is located alongside the River Lune but within easy reach of Lancaster’s centre, so shops, amenities and transport links are all convenient to residents.

The Open House event takes place from 10.00am until 5.30pm.

Oakleigh GreenTotteridge is one of north London’s most sought-after, and expensive, residential areas, but neighbouring Whetstone offers a more affordable option – and developer Annington is inviting house-hunters in the area to register their interest ahead of the launch of a new collection of refurbished homes there in early June.

VIP event launches new development in Market Harborough

The official unveiling of the Ashton Rise development took place last weekend in front of special guests and local house-hunters, with developer Linden Homes launching the first of 119 new homes at the Market Harborough site.

Some of the plots had already been reserved off-plan, but the new show home opened at the event is the first chance for homebuyers in southern Leicestershire to see one of the designs first-hand. The development will provide an array of house types and designs, from two-bedroom options to five-bedroom homes.

Linden Homes Midlands area sales manager Tracey Gibson says: “Buying off-plan is a trend which seems to be continuing across the Midlands region with buyers who are keen to secure their preferred plot on a particular development. For the customer, this is great news – bringing with it numerous benefits. For developers like us, it shows a real confidence in the new homes market and a recognition that our carefully chosen locations and designs are continuing to win public approval.”

Viewings are by appointment only at the site. Prices currently start at £262,495, with Help to Buy, Part Exchange and Assisted Move all available.

New homes on offer at a record-breaking West Lothian site

The OaksCALA Homes – a former WhatHouse? Housebuilder of the Year – is offering five ‘ultimate family homes’ at the smallest development ever undertaken by its East of Scotland division, The Oaks at Linlithgow. Each of the five properties is a spacious five-bedroom detached house that is perfect for family life and ideally located for access to Edinburgh, Stirling and Glasgow.

Philip Hogg, sales and marketing director at CALA Homes (East), says: “In comparison with homes in the Edinburgh area in particular, The Oaks can… offer better value in terms of the amount of available space, along with large private gardens – another perk to the location. The development itself is quite unlike any of our recent sites and offers something particularly special and rare in today’s new-build housing market. By focusing so intently on just five carefully designed and located homes, we believe we have created the dream destination for family living.”

These five homes are set in two acres, giving each a large plot and plenty of space and privacy. Linlithgow, West Lothian’s county town, has a station with regular services on the Edinburgh-Glasgow route, increasing its appeal to commuters to either city. The town is also home to some excellent schools, another major consideration for family homebuyers.

Prices here start at £699,000, with just three of the five homes remaining for sale and some financial incentives on offer.

Special offer on selected family homes in north Devon development

The GatewayRecognising that the costs of moving above just finding a deposit are hindering many house-hunters, Elan Homes has introduced a special offer on selected plots at its The Gateway development in South Molton, Devon this month.

The housebuilder is offering to pay the stamp duty on some three-storey houses at the site for reservations in May. This applies to the ‘Stamford’ house type, which has an integral garage, utility room, open-plan kitchen/dining room, separate lounge and four bedrooms. The ‘Stamford’ starts at £252,995, with Help to Buy available.

Catherine Marshall, sales director for Elan Homes in the South, says: “We know that having to find a large lump sum to pay stamp duty is a major hurdle for many homebuyers and new Nottingham Building Society research confirms this, finding that as many as one in 12 are deterred from moving because of it. In a bid to alleviate this common problem, we will, during May, help homebuyers overcome this hurdle by paying the stamp duty on selected homes at The Gateway and in addition, we’ll pay for flooring to really smooth the way to brand new home.”

The Gateway will comprise 150 two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, close to Exmoor National Park and with convenient access along the A361 to Barnstaple (around 11 miles away), Tiverton (18 miles away) and the M5 (24 miles away).
