Keith OsborneThe WhatHouse? team has looked across the new homes market to find a favourite house and discover the ‘Oxford Lifestyle’, a design that is one of Redrow’s latest range and which is one of three show homes at Langley Grange in Scisset, between Barnsley and Huddersfield.
This is a three-bedroom home built on the footprint of what would normally be a four-bedroom detached house and it boasts a lavish and luxurious feel. This property has ‘family home hub’ at its heart and a main bedroom that looks more like a swish boutique hotel suite. The show home has been fully decorated and furnished by Redrow’s award-winning interior design team, led by Alysha Alli.
“It still has the same spacious living accommodation downstairs,” said Steve Jackson, sales director for Redrow Yorkshire, “and that in itself is stunning, with a fantastic kitchen and dining area that extends the full width of the home at the rear, and double doors that open out onto the garden.”
The kitchen and dining area of the show home is a stand-out area, with Moores Shaker-style kitchen units in Kensington Ivory offering a country-style yet contemporary look, complemented by luxury flooring with naturally laid ceramic plank tiles, and downlighting. There’s a mink ceramic effect dining table top with dark wenge legs, and curved back chairs upholstered in a stone fabric with a wenge frame; and a mix of accessories including large oversized textural glass vases and storage jars, as well as metallic finishes and ceramics.
Jackson continued: “Each of the three bedrooms is larger, more luxuriously appointed and has its own bathroom, which is quite something. But the main bedroom goes beyond that with a walk-through dressing room that makes it a magnificent sanctuary for the homeowner and a real draw for anyone wanting a home that’s more special.”
Alysha Alli said: “We want every customer to walk into our show homes and be blown away from the moment they enter and that’s why we go all out to impress. But most importantly we want them to see that while it’s an amazing home, it’s also a home and a style that they can recreate.
“We’ve featured cool and calming fawn and stone tones, crisp and clean whites to create a relaxed ambience in the show home but added rich inky blue tones and warm colours like ochre to offer a stylish and considered look that flows throughout.”
“We have used a variety of textures and patterns in the fabrics to develop a classic and refined feel, and we’ve chosen marble, glass, ceramics and wood for the furniture and accessories to offer a lasting air of elegance, as well as give inspiration. We have scattered accent greenery throughout to add a freshness and nod to the outdoors being in.”
Understated opulence exudes throughout the home – the lounge is furnished with a chic stone angular fabric sofa, with a matching stone occasional chair and a large spherical footstool upholstered in chunky weave green and fawn fabric with a wenge plinth detail. Natural fabric accent cushions with a contrast velvet pipe alongside a few that are contemporary in their patterning bringing interest, cosiness and comfort to the space. Picking out the accent colours of the space and unifying, which are also echoed in the abstract prints on the walls.
The ‘pièce de résistance’ main bedroom suite is fitted with wardrobes from Gooding’s Monterey collection, beautifully finished in a premium smoked liberty elm wood effect with sleek handles, and matching dressing table and bedside cabinets. The en suite is tiled with Johnson’s ceramic tiles in Bianco Matt White Marble, and the sink sits on a stylish white gloss vanity unit from Roper Rhodes.
Throughout the bedrooms, lounge, stairs and landing, the show home is carpeted from Cormar’s plush Sensations range in Mother of Pearl to instil that sumptuous and luxurious feel.
