Getting Onto The Property Ladder in Manchester

Lynda Clark says the North West city of Manchester is the perfect place for those purchasing their first home.

Lynda Clark, editor of First Time Buyer magazine and organiser of this weekend’s First Time Buyer Home Show, says the North West city is the perfect place for those purchasing their first home.

Manchester has always been a popular destination for first-time buyers looking to find a home that offers a great lifestyle but is compatible with a more affordable budget. Yet for those looking to take their first steps onto the property ladder, it is often difficult to know where to start looking for information.

This weekend the Manchester First Time Buyer Home Show is returning to the city for the fourth consecutive year, and will provide a one-stop shop for all things first-time buyer. From advice on mortgages and conveyancing, to help with finances, or even to explore a range of brand new homes available for purchase, there will be help for everyone’s homebuying needs – and the event is completely free to attend.

Getting on the property ladder is frequently reported to be an impossibility, but by speaking to the right people the reality can be very different. Through clear explanation of all the options available through Shared Ownership, Help to Buy and various 5% deposit schemes, the aim of our Manchester show is to break down some of the perceived barriers to homeownership and make getting on the property ladder a real possibility.

Manchester city centre itself has seen a sharp rise in young professionals investing in property, with a 117% rise in the number of people moving into apartments in the centre in July 2019. The successful property market coincides with a boom in businesses flocking to the city, generating job opportunities and therefore encouraging young people, such as graduates, to either stay or return to Manchester and put down roots.

For first-time buyers who are looking for a larger property with space for starting a family, headline sponsor for the show Laurus Homes offers affordable homes through Shared Ownership and Help to Buy at a range of developments in the North West, such as at Pembroke Green in Worsley, which is just outside of Manchester. Here, prices start from £275,000 for a three-bedroom house. A 40% share can be purchased for £110,000 using Shared Ownership, meaning the first-time buyers would need a 5% deposit of just £5,500.

We are very excited to be returning to the city this weekend for the fourth consecutive year and look forward to welcoming hundreds of homebuyers to the show. There will be over 20 exhibitors who will be on hand to offer free advice to visitors, including Laurus Homes and supporting sponsor Plumlife. RSC New Homes who specialise in mortgages for first-time buyers, LEASE, legal advisors including Direction Law and Lawcomm Solicitors will also be present on the day.

The Manchester First Time Buyer Home Show takes place on Saturday 7 September from 10.00am to 4.00pm and will be held at The Union at Manchester Metropolitan University, 22 Higher Cambridge Street, Manchester, M15 6AD.
