Listed Cottages Becoming New Homes In Ponteland

A unique collection of listed Edwardian cottages is being carefully restored and converted to create new housing on the former Northumbria Police headquarters site in Ponteland.

Offering beautiful exterior period features with the interior comforts of modern homes, The Listed at Ottermead is a range of Grade II-listed Arts and Crafts-style properties, set in a crescent around an attractive area of green open space within the wider Jameson Manor development.

The first four-bedroom semi-detached houses at The Listed were released for sale by Bellway North East in October, with prices starting from £749,995.

Originally known as Ponteland Cottage Homes, the buildings were built in 1903 by John Leeson, having been commissioned by the Newcastle Board of Guardians to provide accommodation for 300 orphans and children of very poor families. The cottage homes complex closed in 1959 and was later used by Northumbria Police.

The Listed will provide 22 new homes, including four- and five-bedroom houses, as well as five two-bedroom apartments within the converted Superintendent’s Home, while the original water tower is also being converted into a house.

The former Northumbria Police headquarters site, including the listed buildings, was bought by Bellway in 2018 for £21million, and this money has been reinvested into local policing in the area.

The wider Jameson Manor development comprises a total of 275 new homes, with Bellway providing 206 homes within Ottermead, and Ashberry Homes building the remaining 69 homes within its Bridgemoor development.
