Keith OsborneAntler Homes, a winner of multiple WhatHouse? Awards, is working on a whole array of house types at a new development on the edge of the South Downs National Park.
Old Hamsey Lakes is a collection of two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes with various house types which will appeal to a host of property wish-lists and budgets. Its lakeside location, surrounded by ancient woodland, combines the rural appeal of East Sussex countryside with proximity to the impressive offerings in nearby towns – Haywards Heath, Lewes and Uckfield are among those within a 15-minute drive – and the city of Brighton.
The area is very appealing for family life and there are well-regarded educational facilities for all ages in the surrounding area. Active leisure time is very well served. In addition to the walking, cycling and horse-riding routes of the countryside and coastline, there are a whole range of facilities for people of all ages, such as golf and other sports clubs, gyms, swimming pools and the host of cultural venues in Brighton.
While commuting may no longer be a five-day-a-week necessity for many, there are numerous stations a convenient drive away which provide frequent direct services to places like Brighton, Gatwick Airport and London Victoria. By road, the A22 links to the M25 and the A27 brings a host of south coast towns easily reachable.
While there has already been considerable sales success at the scheme, house-hunters still have plenty to choose from at Old Hamsey Lakes. They combine the vernacular-inspired architecture, with its variety of brick, tile and render finishes, with a thoroughly up-to-date standard interior specification including bespoke kitchens with built-in Neff appliances, contemporary bathrooms/en suites, built-in wardrobes (in from one to three bedrooms, depending on the house type) and flooring throughout.
‘The Grebe’
One example is ‘The Grebe’, a detached house providing 1,039 sq ft of living space. From the porch and through the front door, the kitchen is off to one side and the hallway leads to the living/dining room, with lots of glazing and French doors to the rear garden. The ground floor also has a WC and some useful storage space. Upstairs is the family bathroom and three bedrooms: two are doubles, with an en suite to bedroom one, and the other a single. This home comes with a single garage and private driveway and prices start at £475,000.
‘The Lapwing’
‘The Lapwing’ starts at £590,000 and is a four-bedroom house with 1,427 sq ft of living space. Off the spacious hallway, at the front of the home, is a lounge, and at the rear is the open-plan kitchen/dining room with French doors to the garden. This room also has a large storage cupboard in addition to the plentiful built-in kitchen units. Completing the ground floor are a WC and a utility room with its own door to the outside. All four of the bedrooms are doubles, with two of them having the bonus of en suite shower room. A linen cupboard and family bathroom complete the upstairs. There’s a single detached garage and private driveway for two cars.
‘The Turnstone’
Top-of-the-range right now is ‘The Turnstone’, in a prime position overlooking the lake. This house type is set over three floors and has 1,781 sq ft of living space as well as its single garage and private driveway. The layout is quite unusual. There are four double bedrooms (one with en suite) and the family bathroom on the ground floor. The hub of the home is on the first floor: at the front, with its view over the water, is the lounge with bi-fold doors to the generous private balcony. The kitchen/dining room at the rear has its own Juliet balcony and this floor also has a WC. The top floor is dedicated to the principal bedroom which has an en suite shower room, a dressing area and its own private balcony. This home is priced at £835,000.
