The WhatHouse? Awards 2022 takes place on Friday 18 November. An Award is the housebuilding industry’s most prestigious prize, and one of the most successful multiple winners from the 2021 edition, Places for People, has seen great success in the last 12 months as a result.

In the Best House category, the company won a Bronze for one of its ‘Wood End’ house type at Tornagrain, the Scottish Highlands’ newest town, situated just eight miles east of Inverness. Prices for two-bedroom homes there are currently priced from £222,000.

It also won Silver for Best House through its premium brand Millwood Designer Homes for ‘The Beddington’ detached house at Heartenoak Meadows in Hawkhurst, Kent, which was conceived by in-house architect Pete Bland. The judges noted its external style, sympathetic with the local period style, and its internal layout and high-end specification.

East Wick + Sweetwater is a joint venture development where Places for People is in partnership with Balfour Beatty Investments to create a residential-led mixed-use community located at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. This development, which is set to bring 1,800 new homes to the area, nabbed a Silver in the Best Partnership category, with judges describing it as “incredibly complex, but is brought to life by its dynamism and energy of expression. Walking round its very sophisticated complexity of streets, walkways and tight urban squares is an exciting experience.”

There was one further prize for Places for People, with its Brio Retirement Living team being awarded Bronze in the Best Retirement Development category for Button House in Hackbridge, south London. Judges said: “it has the ‘wow’ factor, thanks to its good-looking exterior and chic communal terrace and attractive interior.”

Of his organisation’s success, Places for People’s group executive director, Scott Black, commented: “This is a tremendous achievement for the Group. As a leading placemaker, we continue to deliver a range of quality affordable homes across the UK and we are delighted to be recognised for the design of our homes, partnership and delivery of retirement living alongside the calibre of entrants in these highly regarded awards. As a team, we are proud to play our part in delivering these communities, developments and homes. This is well-deserved recognition of the talents of everyone involved, who share our vision for building places where people will want to live.”
