Sustainable Sales Pavilion Unveiled In West Sussex
Developer Thakeham has unveiled its new sustainable sales pavilion at flagship development Woodgate in Pease Pottage, West Sussex.
The individually designed sales and marketing suite showcases a range of pioneering, environmentally friendly furnishings that reflect Thakeham’s commitment to sustainability across its operations and the homes it delivers.
Dark cladding, a zinc roof and contrasting natural stained timber creates an exterior reminiscent of a traditional barn building and in keeping with its semi-rural surroundings; solar PV panels on the roof help to power the building.
The pavilion incorporates a range of sustainably sourced furniture pieces and fittings. Worktops are from Smile Plastics and are made from 100% recycled and recyclable materials, including yoghurt pots (hints of silver and gold in the surface are the foil lids!) and so-called waste food packaging. The coffee station, samples area and the VR station are constructed from reclaimed wood and birch plywood from The Wood Veneer Hub.
Soft furnishings are also eco-friendly, with Fleck Eco Fabric chairs made from recycled wool and polyester, the latter of which is produced using waste plastic bottles. The sofas are made with Seaqual yarn produced using upcycled marine litter gathered from beaches and the oceans. In the entrance atrium, the striking decorative sculpture which hangs from the ceiling is made of 99% aluminium, a fully recyclable material.
Instead of being dismantled when it is no longer needed for sales purposes, Thakeham hopes that the pavilion could be a permanent feature at Woodgate.
Josie Thornewill, head of sustainability at Thakeham, comments: “Our sustainability ethos underpins everything we do at Thakeham. We know from the feedback we receive that our buyers are increasingly looking for ways to make better choices for the planet and so we want to ensure every step of the customer journey is more environmentally friendly.”
Thakeham has made a series of pledges to address the effects of climate change, including for Thakeham Group to become a zero-carbon business by 2025. At Woodgate, every home has been designed to reduce its occupants’ carbon footprint, including high levels of insulation in all homes to reduce heat loss and fast electric car charging. Residents will also benefit from extensive open space with a new village green with surrounding play areas, trails, pathways and cycle routes linking the development to the 370-acre Tilgate Forest.
