This weekend, St William puts the first homes for sale at a scheme creating a whole new community in east London...

St William, part of the multi-award-winning Berkley Group, has announced the launch of Poplar Riverside, on the banks of the River Lea in east London.

The development occupies 20 acres and will provide 2,800 new homes, a new school, a new park, as well as a gym, a crèche, shops, restaurants and cafés all set to become a new and vibrant Zone 2/3 neighbourhood.

With over half the development dedicated to open space and landscaped gardens , the transformation will provide a 2.5-acre public park with an adventure and nature playground for children to explore alongside a 500m riverside walkway. Poplar Riverside will also bring over 90,000 sq ft of commercial space, a new Sainsbury’s food store, a riverside pub and world-class public and residents’ facilities, firmly establishing a new hub for the local community.

Poplar RiversideFrom Saturday 5 June, the first collection of apartments will be available for sale, providing the first opportunity to be a part of this new neighbourhood. With design reflecting the character, colours, and textures of the surrounding East London, all apartments provide plenty of living space without compromising on practical necessities like storage and privacy, with large feature windows flooding the rooms with natural light. Each has outside space, many with river, park and city views. Residents will also have access to a 24-hour concierge service. Prices start at £350,000.

Sean Ellis, chairman of St William, said: “Poplar Riverside is set to play a major role in the area’s wider regeneration, with a site for a new school, new park, new shops, restaurants and cafes helping to transform this riverside location into a fantastic place to call home.

“We’re creating a highly sustainable, green community, with more than half of the site dedicated to open, landscaped spaces and the creation of a new 2.5 acre park and a new 500m riverside walkway, delivering 55% net biodiversity gain.

“We have carefully considered the needs of our future residents by providing a comprehensive range of facilities including a large co-working suite with open plan spaces, meeting rooms, private hire dining rooms and a bar, as well as private outdoor terraces, a lobby-style Great Room, private cinema room and games room. The first floor Riverside Spa includes a 20m pool, jacuzzi, private treatment room and salt and steam rooms, with views of the River Lea.”

A new play area will be incorporated within the park, alongside a large terrace and a 10,000-sq-ft outdoor performance space at Shelduck Square that will be used for public events. In addition, a public square featuring a café and Wi-Fi-enabled spaces will serve as a venue for community events.

Poplar is an area known for its fashion and textile heritage and is already home to a vibrant and creative community of independent retailers. Poplar Works, which is adjacent to Poplar Riverside, provides more than 40 studio workspaces to independent and start-up businesses working in the fashion industry.
