Lichfield Period Conversion Complete But Still Some Availability

Keith OsborneThe £5million transformation of Lichfield’s 1930s Regal Cinema into an apartment development is complete and more than 70% sold – but there are still some homes available.
Homeowners have started moving into The Old Picture House in Tamworth Street, which comprises 36 one- and two-bedroom apartments thanks to the restoration of the Art Deco-style heritage building by Birmingham-based developer SomertonJones, working with Lodge Park Homes.
Each style of apartment has been named after a 1930s cinema star. Many have generously sized balconies with views of the Lichfield skyline, including the cathedral. They also benefit from floor-to-ceiling windows, allocated undercroft parking and superfast broadband connectivity.
To mark the completion, Lichfield MP Michael Fabricant took a tour of the development with Somerton Jones director Warren Jones. The politician said: “I’m really impressed by this transformation of former cinema building, which unfortunately lay empty for many years and was in a terrible state. These are fabulous new homes with excellent rooftop views and an unbeatable location in the centre of our city.”
Jones added: “We’re very proud of this development which now offers some of the highest standard apartments in the city. We have sold more than 70% with buyers ranging from first-time buyers to investors and retirees. They are all keen to take advantage of the site’s city centre location, and the cinema heritage has also been a big factor. Lichfield is a wonderful city to live and I am looking at more opportunities to provide more homes here.”
Karen Heath, sales and marketing director at Lodge Park Homes, added: “We feel very privileged to be able to be involved in the restoration of a part of Lichfield’s history. The Old Picture House is a fantastic development offering a high standard of finish, in an excellent city centre location”.
There are still 12 two-bedroom ‘Sinatra’ style apartments for sale, priced between £250,000 and £275,000. A view home at The Old Picture House will open in early 2021.
