Shared Ownership event taking place in Oxfordshire this weekend

Posted 7 March 2016 by Keith Osborne

Heyford Regeneration will welcome house-hunters looking for an affordable new home in Bicester at the Shared Ownership weekend, 12/13 March 2016...

Aimed at would-be homeowners who are struggling to afford the property they need on the open market, social housing provider Heyford Regeneration is holding a Shared Ownership open weekend at Heyford Park, in Oxfordshire, on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 March.

The provides house-hunters with the chance to meet representatives from Heyford Regeneration at the former RAF Upper Heyford site and receive first-hand advice and guidance to the Shared Ownership scheme and the selection of two- and three-bedroom houses currently for sale through it.

Heyford ParkShared Ownership is a government-backed scheme which allows purchasers who can’t afford a mortgage on the full purchase price of a home to buy an initial share of between 50% and 75%, and pay a below-market-value rent on the remaining share. Homebuyers are able to purchase further shares of the property over time if they wish, up to the full 100% in time.

Prices at Heyford Park, located  just a few miles from the centre of Bicester and within convenient commute of Oxford, Birmingham and London, start from £127,500 for a 50% share of a two-bedroom house, with a monthly rent of £292.

Jeanne Evett, head of sales at developer Dorchester Living, says: “Shared Ownership is becoming increasingly popular with homebuyers who are looking to get on or move up the housing ladder but can’t afford a home at full value or save for a big deposit. We want to help these homebuyers realise their dream of homeownership and potential of purchasing a property that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford without the scheme.”

The new development taking shape at Heyford Park will provide 700 new homes, and there is already a brand new school, Heyford Park Free School, which opened in 2013 to take children of the many families destined to make the new community their home. The school provides pitches and an indoor sports centre for community use, and in time, a neighbourhood centre with shops and a village pub will join the amenities available to residents.
