Independent-Living Village Open Week Taking Place In Sherborne

Posted 10 September 2021 by Keith Osborne

Later this month, house-hunters can pop in to find out more about over-55s development Sherborne by Platinum Skies...

The public are invited to learn more about the lifestyle offering at an open week for a new independent-living village in Sherborne later this month.

The special event takes place from Monday 20 to Sunday 26 September at the Sherborne community based at the top of the A30 and Horsecastles Lane, which is less than a mile away from the town centre. A host of apartments and houses are being built in Sherborne by Platinum Skies for over-55s who are looking to benefit from living amongst like-minded neighbours who can socialise together.

Communal facilities in the village include a bistro, bar area, homeowners’ lounges, activity room, visitor’s suite, and treatment room. Lynsey Williams is the dedicated onsite community manager for Sherborne who organises events and trips for the homeowners, as well as providing practical and emotional support.

Rita Swann, a Platinum Skies homeowner, says that she has never looked back since moving to her apartment within a friendly community. She said: “My flat was really too large and I was too isolated, so I decided that I needed to look for somewhere with a nice apartment and a lifestyle so that I could continue to be active and be with friends.

“I have found it at Platinum Skies as not only are the apartments lovely and I've got a lovely view which I'm very fortunate about that, but also there’s the other people. Everyone is so relaxed and so happy. It's just a joy to be with them because we have so many laughs.”

She added: “I've just turned 90 and I've started doing Pilates twice a week and I also play table tennis in the evening with the two of my neighbours. Life is just so good here.”

Each low-maintenance home in Sherborne features energy-saving appliances in the kitchens, step-free showers in the bathrooms, communal gardens, and onsite parking. Pets are welcome at all Platinum Skies properties. The Sherborne community is based in a quiet location just a two-minute drive or six-minute walk to the nearest food shop, a four-minute drive to the town centre, and a six-minute drive to Sherborne train station.
