Plans approved for major Peninsula Central East development

Posted 13 November 2014 by Keith Osborne

Residential property developer Knight Dragon has been awarded planning consent from the Royal Borough of Greenwich for a 1,007-home development in London’s Greenwich Peninsula.

According to the plans put forward by the Hong Kong-based builder, the existing Rotunda building at the Peninsula Central East site will be bulldozed and replaced with five new residential towers, with each ranging from 22 to 31 storeys in height.

The towers will collectively feature 1,007 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom flats, including 205 affordable homes.

Aside from the construction of much required new homes, the scheme will also consist of a range of health, cultural and leisure facilities, as well as a 6,000sqm public plaza, connecting North Greenwich London Underground station to the waterfront.

With the support of London’s mayor Boris Johnson, 10,000 homes are being developed by Dragon over a 25-year period in what is one of the capital’s largest regeneration projects.

Knight Dragon is aiming to transform the 160-acre development into a major new district.

“[London’s Greenwich Peninsula] reallyis a blank canvas,” Sammy Lee, vice-president of Knight Dragon told the press. “Ideally, residents can do all their living right on the Peninsula – whether shopping, dining, exercising, socialising [or] entertainment.”
