Smoking ban proposed at new retirement development in Berkshire

The operator of a new retirement development which is set to open in 2018 are consulting with advance off-plan buyers to determine whether to ban smoking across the entire site, as it looks to promote health and wellbeing at its flagship village.

Robin Hughes, managing director of Castle Retirement Living, says the proposal for Castle View Windsor is based on similar trials taken at developments in Australia: “I think it’s time that the impact of second-hand smoke in a community environment like Castle View Windsor is really considered with some fresh thinking. As most residents will have generous balconies to their apartments, along with universal access to roof terraces, we do not really want these areas to be used by any smokers or guests, potentially impacting on the general amenity of the village with passive smoke.”

Half the first phase of apartments at the scheme have already been purchased, with prices currently ranging from £330,000 to £650,000. A second phase is set for release in June 2017, with the site set to open to residents in autumn next year.
