New Shared Ownership And Help To Buy In Thamesmead

Posted 20 October 2021 by Helen Christie

As one of the most affordable places to purchase in London, Thamesmead is perfect for first-time buyers seeking value for money in the capital...

Peabody is launching a new phase of 88 apartments through Help to Buy, and 11 townhouses through Shared Ownership, at their flagship development, Southmere in Thamesmead.

Through London Help to Buy and Shared Ownership, Peabody is helping to make the area even more accessible, with purchasers having the option to get on to the property ladder through their preferred buying scheme.

Launching on 23 October, Peabody’s new collection of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments at Southmere offer the best of contemporary city living. Elegant kitchen/living areas with extensive storage and built-in appliances extend onto spacious balconies, some of which are wraparound, while bathrooms have marble-effect ceramic tiling and contemporary oak-style panelling detail.

Launching on 30 October, Peabody’s townhouses are designed for modern family living, spread across three floors with up to 1,362 sq ft of living space. A modern take on the traditional townhouse, on the ground floor is an open-plan kitchen/diner, WC and storage. The first floor features the first bedroom and living room, which opens on to a private terrace garden, and a WC in select homes. To the top floor are the remaining bedrooms alongside a family bathroom and further storage space.

Lisa Crush, director of sales and marketing at Peabody comments: “Southmere is undoubtedly one of London’s most exciting developments. An early phase in the 30-year regeneration of the area, residents will see first-hand the revitalisation and transformation of Thamesmead into the thriving neighbourhood its original master-planners intended it to become. After extraordinary demand for our first launch of homes at Southmere, we expect demand to be terrific for this new phase of apartments and townhouses. There are few more affordable homes in the capital, in an area brimming with such excitement and promise.”

Residents will have access to a concierge service, residents’ lounge, meeting rooms and workspaces – part of the breadth of facilities in Cygnet Square, a new public square in the heart of Southmere. Alongside these amenities is a new library, shops, restaurants and community facilities, all sitting moments from Southmere Lake.

This iconic blue space, captured in countless film and television appearances, is currently undergoing a £2.5m renovation and will provide new fishing platforms and a Boating and Sailing Club, offering paddle boarding and kayaking.

Southmere is already well connected to the city, with the nearby Abbey Wood Overground station making London Bridge accessible in only 22 minutes, Bond Street in 25 minutes and Waterloo in 35 minutes. With Crossrail on the horizon at Abbey Wood, commuters can expect to be in Canary Wharf in only 11 minutes. For those travelling slightly further afield, London City Airport is accessible in just 30 minutes. Residents will also have access to cycle storage, and parking spaces and permits are also available.

Peabody’s new range of one- to three-bedroom apartments for private sale launch on Saturday 23 October. Prices start from £297,500, with Help to Buy available on all homes under £600,000.

Peabody’s collection of townhouses launch on Saturday 30 October. Prices start from £150,000 for a 30% share of a three- bedroom townhouse (FMV £500,000) and four- bedroom townhouses start from £180,000 for a 30% share (FMV £600,000).
