New Retirement Development Named In Sutton Coldfield 

A new retirement living development coming soon to Sutton Coldfield is to be named after one of the largest pools in Sutton Park, Powell’s Pool.

WhatHouse? Award-winning McCarthy Stone has named the new development on Maney Corner, which is just a short walk from the heritage site, Powell House. It was chosen as a nod to the rich history of the impressive 28-acre pool which many locals will be surprised to learn has a remarkable backstory.

Powell’s Pool was originally constructed in 1730 as part of a dam, which was used to power an 18th-century watermill nearby. Before it was demolished in 1936, the mill played a vital role in a host of industrial processes, including rolling steel for pens. The reservoir’s name was given by William Powell, who leased the mill more than 270 years ago.

Today, Powell’s Pool is an ideal spot for fishing and wildlife watching, with youth and community groups also using the water for sailing and canoeing.

McCarthy Stone has released CGI images of what the exciting new development will look like, with construction started in August. Once complete, it will compromise a selection of 25 one -bedroom and 18 two-bedroom low-maintenance and energy-efficient apartments, which have been designed specifically to meet the needs of the over-60s, and complete with a range of facilities including a shared lounge for social gatherings, landscaped gardens to relax in, as well as a convenient guest suite.

A 24/7 emergency call system and door-camera entry will give homeowners reassurance and peace of mind, while a house manager will also be on-site during office hours to oversee the day-to-day running of the development. Properties will be available to purchase outright or rent.
