Open Day At Historic Coventry Scheme This Weekend

Buyers are invited to make an appointment to see the 'jewel in the crown' of an impressive conversion development...

On Saturday 27 March, Loveitts Estate Agents is set to host an open day at the former home of Coventry mayor and Triumph Cycles owner, Siegfried Bettmann.

The open day is set to take place by appointment only and offers property-hunters the opportunity to see the recently reformed Victorian villa in the flesh, in line with the current Covid-19 guidelines. Attendees will also be able to witness up close the jewel in Elm Bank’s crown – aptly named ‘The Billiards’, as it was formerly Bettmann’s billiards room.

Having already sold 50% of the properties available since its launch in January, the quintessentially Victorian converted homes are proving to be a hit. Solihull developer P&K Estates has expertly restored the building into a selection of 14 luxurious one- and two-bedroom homes.

‘The Billiards’ features a 120-year painting by Birmingham artist Oscar Mancine which surrounds the interior of the open-plan living area and retains its original and expertly restored parquet flooring and cast-iron radiators. The property comes with its own approach and entrance, original focal fireplace, high ceilings, two spacious bedrooms and two bathrooms with the added bonus of its own private garden leading off the lounge/dining/kitchen.

Viewers will find an abundance of period features throughout all of the properties where each home beautifully captures the balance between traditional Victorian character and flawless contemporary design.

Built in 1880s, 9 North Avenue was inhabited by Bettmann from 1905 until he died in 1951. Within those years Ramsey McDonald, Britain’s Prime Minister 1921-21 visited him at the property twice in 1925.

The development – known as Elm Bank – lies within easy reach of the bustling city centre and Coventry’s train station and amenities.

All new homes within the development come with underfloor heating and feature a beautifully finished state-of-the-art contemporary SieMatic kitchens as well as Porcelanosa bathrooms. Each property has been individually designed to ensure that there is something for everyone.

Elm BankPrices range from £180,000 to £360,000 and the Help to Buy scheme is available for first time buyers. All properties will be owned on a shared freehold basis. The newly launched mortgage guarantee scheme, bringing back 95% mortgages to help people with small deposits will also be available to both first-time buyers and existing homeowners.

“We are delighted to be able to host an open day at the new Elm Bank development on the weekend of the 27 March said Laura Wilson, area land and new homes manager at Loveitts Estate Agents: “The developers have done their upmost to retain the stunning historical characteristics of Siegfried Bettmann’s former home. Despite the challenges they faced to ensure none of the property’s quintessential Victorian character of was compromised, P&K Estates stuck true to their vision of returning this small segment of Coventry’s proud history back to its former glory.

“We feel that the jewel in the crown of the property is certainly ‘The Billiards’ as this property emulates the feel and style of a stately home with the original fireplace and parquet flooring still as it was nearly 100 years ago – just without the eye-watering price tag.

“With 50% of the properties already sold – one prior to the properties being listed and another on the day they went live – we expect significant interest in the remaining seven homes. Their idyllic location, the security and privacy that Elm Bank provides and the properties quintessentially Victorian character are just some the perks of living in one of Coventry’s most desirable locations.

“Elm Bank’s clear historical significance coupled with its beauty as a property makes it a hugely sought-after location for any home hunter. The combination of the Victorian feel with modern furnishings truly epitomises luxury living – and all are up for grabs for a reasonable price.

“We wish to urge attendees that the open day will be hosted in line with the government’s coronavirus guidelines and we will ensure that visitor safety is optimised on the day. “
