Housebuilder Secures A Rugby Union Star Mentor
Two students from Moulton School and Science College have secured a five-week mentoring programme with Northampton Saints fullback George Furbank, thanks to local housebuilder Mulberry Homes.
The programme has been developed by the Mintridge Foundation and it matches students with an ambassador. It has been adapted for lockdown and continues to support students with their development and mental wellbeing during this challenging time.
Seb Davies and Max Gjorka are both in Year 9 at Moulton School and are keen rugby players. They were selected to take part by the school’s head of rugby because they are both great team players and this was a great opportunity to support their overall wellbeing, motivation and aspirations.
The programme happens via Skype and Playwaze (with full safeguarding procedures in place) with the students having live, one-to-one sessions with George which will cover topics such as identity, confidence, self-care, performance at school as well as out on the pitch.
Mulberry Homes is funding the programme for both students as part of its Distinctly Local campaign, which aims to support two local charities or organisations every month. The programme has continued throughout the coronavirus pandemic, focusing on good causes that can really make a difference to communities coping with the ‘new normal’.
Kerry Jones, sales director for Mulberry Homes, said: “We’ve been incredibly proud to be able to continue with our Distinctly Local donations during the pandemic. It’s been tough for families to adapt to the new normal, often with everyone at home all together and ordinary routines disrupted. Children in particular will have found the absence of school, sporting activities and interaction with their peers a challenge, which is why we were so impressed with the Mintridge Foundation programme.
“Ambassadors like George, will really help to inspire and motivate the students and we look forward to hearing how Seb and Max get on with the sessions.”
Alex Wallace, managing director of the Mintridge Foundation, added: “To have such support from an organization like Mulberry Homes is more important than ever to enable our inspirational ambassadors to continue to support students with both their physical and mental wellbeing during this unprecedented time. We are grateful to everyone involved.”
