Eagerly Awaited Barnstaple Homes Launching Soon

Strong homebuyer interest in an urban extension of Barnstaple has led to Elan Homes soon making its first home there available to reserve off-plan.

Elan Homes has revealed it has been receiving two or three enquiries a day for the last six months from buyers eager to live at Pickards at Larkbear. In response to the demand, the homebuilder is releasing selected properties on the first phase for sale off-plan from Thursday 7 January 2021.

These are part of a wider 820-home new neighbourhood being developed across a 58-acre site, off Old Torrington Road. The overall scheme will also include a new primary school, local centre with potential uses including a small shop, surgery, pharmacy and community hall. There will also be acres of open space and woodland, plus cycle paths and other facilities.

The first Elan phase of the development will offer 57 homes ranging from two-bedroom properties to substantial five-bedroom homes. A second phase, featuring 59 Elan homes, is currently subject to planning.

Elan regional sales director Tracey Ball said: “The new homes we’re building in Barnstaple are part of a much wider scheme that will bring substantial investment and employment opportunities to the area, along with much-needed housing. We first began receiving enquiries when the initial plans were submitted and at various stages during the intervening years. This has really picked up recently and in the last six months we’ve been contacted by two or three people a day all eager to know when the homes will be available.”

Outline planning permission for the wider scheme was granted seven years ago, in October 2013. Accessed via the A361, the new neighbourhood is taking shape on land next to the North Devon College – Petroc. Other nearby amenities include a retail park and Barnstaple train station.

Prices for the Elan homes at Pickards at Larkbear will be announced at the launch and the sales office will be open, by appointment only, from 10.00am on Thursday 7 January.
