Keith OsborneDesigned by leading interior designer firm Claude Hooper Interiors, the first show home to launch at David Wilson Homes’ Ashridge Grange is fully sustainable, providing inspiration for future buyers to make more eco-friendly design choices once settled in.
The ‘Archford Plus’ is a three-bedroom property, appealing to young families looking to settle down and implement a greener routine into their everyday lives. Everything from the paint, a natural, organic and non-toxic selection, to the zero-waste packaging of beauty, wellbeing and cleaning products featured throughout have been specifically included to promote a low-waste and organic lifestyle. Care has also been taken with the smaller details, with the wool sofa fabric made from recycled yarn, the inclusion of biodegradable accessories such as bamboo mirrors and the Roman blinds have been made from recycled polyester, produced from waste plastic bottles.
The dining table is made from MDF which has been formed from wood shavings, with the accompanying dining chairs made from sisal rope. The sisal plant is a renewable source and is suitable for people with asthma and allergies as it is a non-toxic fibre. These fibres also resist static, preventing it from attracting dust.
The Denby tableware also featured is also made from environmentally conscious clay and is a zero-waste option as opposed to plastic alternatives. Denby is one of the few potteries to be ISO 14001 accredited as well as the first UK tableware manufacturer to be able to claim ‘zero to landfill’ for all their process waste.
Alongside promoting sustainability within its show home, David Wilson Southern Counties has pledged that it will make its developments more sustainable right from the start of the build process, working to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 – the first major housebuilder to do so, as well as new home designs to be net zero carbon from 2030.
Kimberley Benson, sales and marketing director of Barratt Southern Counties, comments, “The residential sector is the fourth-largest source of carbon emissions in the world and we as an industry need to do more to combat this. Our new show home at Ashridge Grange is a clear indication of the small changes that we can make to ensure our interior design is more sustainable, presenting to our prospective buyers the environmentally-friendly options that can be easily but effectively implemented in our homes without compromise on any aspect of design or quality.
“Claude Hooper has once again sourced an excellent range of products that are easily accessible, affordable and fundamentally environmentally-friendly alternatives that are fantastic examples for our visitors. We hope that these will help encourage our residents to make more responsible decisions when decorating their own homes.”
The housebuilder has also just introduced a financial initiative at Ashridge Grange to help key workers purchase their new home there. The Key Worker Deposit Contribution Scheme will see qualifying homebuyers receive up to a £15,000 boost on their deposit towards any home at Ashridge Grange. With the average mortgage interest rate at 6.5%, pushing affordability to the limit, the Key Worker Deposit Contribution Scheme offers a helping hand to priced out home movers. Key workers employed by the NHS, teachers, police and fire services, Service personnel, prison and probation services, plus Local Authority employees and Highways England staff will be eligible to benefit from the scheme.
The Key Worker Deposit Contribution will see David Wilson Southern Counties contribute £750 for every £25,000 spent on the value of the home, up to a total of £15,000. For example, someone purchasing a £272,995 one-bedroom apartment at Ashridge Grange would be eligible to receive over £8,000 as a deposit boost. Plus, buyers will reap the rewards of homeownership for years to come, with a new David Wilson home on average 69% cheaper to run than an updated Victorian equivalent.
Kimberley Benson added: “We launched a Deposit Contribution Scheme to thank hardworking NHS staff during the pandemic, and now we are proud to open this up to every key worker in the country in recognition of all their hard work. With the barriers to homeownership at an all-time high, the Key Worker Deposit Contribution Scheme aims to cut the upfront costs to homebuying, and offer a much needed leg up onto the property ladder, for everyone who needs it.
The development offers a selection of one- and two-bedroom apartments alongside two-, three- and four-bedroom houses. Find out more about Ashridge Grange from David Wilson Homes.
