Building Engineer Retires To New Home In Bedhampton

Keith OsborneA retired engineer who spent his whole career inspecting buildings across the region, is thrilled with his new home at a David Wilson Homes development in Bedhampton and has been ‘blown away’ by the quality of his property.
Barry Taylor (69), along with his wife, Kim (60), lived in Portsmouth and brought up their family in a four-bedroom townhouse they owned for 28 years. With their children now grown up, the couple wanted to downsize to a smaller property. Feeling inspired by the quality of a David Wilson Homes property their son had bought in Petersfield, Barry and Kim decided to find out about upcoming developments.
The couple went on to purchase a home at David Wilson Homes’ Harbour Place, and have been really impressed, both with the quality of their new home as well as with the whole development situated close to Havant town centre.
Barry, who has enjoyed a 40-year career as a building engineer, said: “I’ve looked around a lot of buildings and I can honestly say that the quality of our new David Wilson home, is one of the best I’ve seen! We were so impressed with our son’s new home, that we wanted to look at downsizing to a David Wilson property ourselves. When we saw that homes were being built at Harbour Place, in an area we know and close to our children, we didn’t hesitate.
“When we received our keys, I went around the property with a fine-toothed comb and only spotted one minor issue, and that was dealt with quickly. The development itself is also spectacularly well laid out and is very spacious. I can’t praise it enough!”
A close family, Barry and Kim are hands-on grandparents, and are often looking after their three grandchildren. Kim even provides childcare four days a week while her son and daughter are at work. It was important that the couple’s new home was in a location not far away.
Kim said: “I am often doing school drop-offs and pick-ups, so we needed to be close to both my son, in Petersfield, and my daughter, in Drayton, and Harbour Place is perfect. The fact that it has so much green space nearby and is also close to the coast, is also a real bonus.”
The couple are now settled into their new three-bedroom Hadley home and haven’t look back. Kim added: “The ‘Hadley’ home is smaller than what we’ve been used to but has everything we need as we go forward into retirement. We’re looking forward to this new chapter of our lives.”
The David Wilson Homes’ ‘Hadley’ home has a light and bright dual aspect lounge downstairs, along with a large open plan kitchen with French doors to the garden and separate utility. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, one with an en suite, a single bedroom and a family bathroom. The home also comes with two parking spaces.
Tammy Bishop, David Wilson Homes sales director, Southampton division, said: “We have a collection of high-quality properties on offer at Harbour Place, and we’re committed to providing homes our customers will love. I’m thrilled to hear how impressed Barry and Kim are with their new home.”
Harbour Place is a collection of three- and four-bedroom homes located between Bedhampton and Drayton. Surrounded by both green open space and on the coastline, with Langstone Harbour on the doorstep, it’s an ideal place to call home. A variety of shops, cafés, bars, and restaurants are also location within easy reach.
