Downsizing Advice Event Coming To Windsor Scheme

Posted 28 September 2021 by Keith Osborne

Castle Retirement Living is hosting an event for people investigating a move to a smaller age-exclusive home...

Back by popular demand, a special presentation to demystify ‘downsizing’ and simplify the task of moving home in later life is taking place next week at Castle View in Windsor.

“I wish I’d done it earlier”, “If only I had known” and “I used to feel so lonely” are just some of the many things people say once they have moved into Castle View after downsizing.

“It’s very easy to put off the conversation about downsizing, but no matter how fit and healthy you are, age will eventually catch-up with you and mobility could become an issue,” said Ruth Wilson, who is organising the event. “It is all so much easier when you are that bit younger or have some assistance, so the message has to be not to put it off until it’s too late.”

Downsizing – or ‘rightsizing’ as some call it – is a challenge facing many people as they reach retirement age. The simple fact is that as we grow older our accommodation needs change, but typically after years of living in the same home surrounded by treasured possessions, familiarity which once reassured and made us feel safe and comfortable becomes more of a trap and ultimately makes moving difficult.

But most people eventually realise – or their grown-up children realise for them! - that their current house and garden is becoming too much to cope with, and that moving to a smaller, more manageable home would provide a better, less-stressful way of life.

To help in just this situation, Castle View, the new retirement village in Windsor, has begun a series of talks to explain and demystify Downsizing, and the next one is to be held on Thursday 7 October at 4.00pm.

Free-of-charge to attend and lasting around 45 minutes, the event has independent speakers who will cover a range of subjects, from choosing an estate agent and getting your current property valued, looking at the options for a smaller more appropriate home, through to those who will look at the financial implications, and others to take care of the move and house clearance. The speakers are:

  • Nathan Kapoor – Charles Coleman Solicitors
  • Richard Horler – Horler Estate Agents
  • Amanda Fyfe – Senior Moves
  • Harry Ballin – Windsor Auctions
  • Chris Johnson – Frontline Solutions Removals
  • Steve Shaw – PX Partnership (part exchange)
  • Audrey Reed – a property owner at Castle View shares her story, insights, emotions and advice having happily moved home.

Afterwards you are invited to meet the team and existing property owners for a buffet and refreshments on the roof terrace. Find out more and book your place at the event on 01753 378127, [email protected] or www.castleviewwindsor.co.uk.
