Adlington Retirement Living is celebrating the official opening of Jacobs Gate, its new retirement community in Sheffield.

It welcomed its first homeowners during the UK lockdowns and official celebrations were postponed until it was safe to invite friends, family and dignitaries to a sparkling reception to celebrate in style.

The Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Gail Smith, joined new homeowners, potential purchasers and the on-site teams and commented: “I was delighted to be asked to officially open Jacobs Gate. It's a wonderful new development which has a real sense of community. Homeowners can enjoy the privacy of their own home in their spacious apartments, and they also have access to a restaurant, lounge and beautifully landscaped gardens. I enjoyed meeting with so many happy homeowners.”

A range of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments are available, each including quality fitted kitchens and integrated appliances. Many feature en suite shower rooms and separate bathrooms and most have walk-on balconies or a patio area overlooking the beautifully landscaped gardens.

The communal facilities on offer include a table-service restaurant, homeowners' lounge, hairdressing salon, therapy suite and activities studio. A guest suite, equipped with a kitchenette and en suite, is also available for visiting friends and family.

Alexandra Johnson, sales and marketing director for Adlington Retirement Living, added: “Adlington's vision is to empower our older generation to live a long, happy and healthy life. We do that by creating safe and secure environments with active communities, extensive facilities, and spacious, quality homes, providing an opportunity to enjoy retirement with a new perspective.”

The 24-hour on-site support teams provide homeowners with added peace of mind and, if needed, the option of tailored personal care. In addition to this, there is a sophisticated emergency call system as well as a security video entry to manage access.

Nigel, one of the new homeowners at Jacobs Gate, said: “We've been really impressed with the way the team make sure they know that everybody is alright. It's much more than we expected.” Nigel's daughter Maria added: “I think it's just marvellous. All the staff are lovely, it's a really good combination of high-quality standards and caring people. We are so thrilled Dad is living here, it's just the right place for him and we're excited for his future.”

Tours of Jacobs Gate are available Monday to Saturday from 10.00am to 5.00pm. Find out more at www.adlington.co.uk.
