Live Like The ‘Ton’ At Luxury Surrey Development

Posted 17 March 2022 by Keith Osborne

Regency style epitomises the luxury to be found at the exclusive Magna Carta Park development in Englefield Green...

With hit TV show Bridgerton about to return to our screens, it’s tempting to think about trading our modern, 21st-century lifestyles for one with an essence of Regency-style romance – and the high-end Magna Carta Park development just might offer that.

Situated in Englefield Green, Magna Carta Park is a new private estate by Royalton Group which allows its residents to live a decadent lifestyle in a traditional English setting. Whether Bridgerton or Featherington, residents can enjoy a wealth of amenities at this luxurious development which offers 57 properties set amongst 57 acres of beautiful woodland.

Magna Carta Park certainly offers an opportunity to live like a member of The Ton, an exclusive social group of the early 19th century; with its classic architecture and royal location, the development also boasts high-end facilities and wide-open green spaces to explore.

Alex Herman, sales & marketing director for Royalton Group, commented: “As soon as the first series of Bridgerton aired at the end of 2020, we received a flurry of enquiries from prospective American buyers, who had enjoyed the quintessentially English setting of the TV show and were looking to recreate this in their own English abode. Of the enquiries, many were from the East Coast of the US including Boston and New York and one from a businessman from Texas who joked about the Bridgerton effect.

“We are confident that the second season of Bridgerton will inevitably drive further interest to the estate.”

‘Quincy’A world of luxury

Magna Carta Park provides a wealth of high-end amenities, allowing residents to have a high-society lifestyle; possibly how the characters in Bridgerton would have lived if the series were set in the modern day. The estate offers 24-hour security and a bespoke concierge, who greets guests upon arrival, as well as assisting them with any enquiries. There are also three tennis courts, an indoor swimming pool and luxurious spa all on-site, as well as the stylish Audley Cooper’s Hill restaurant.

Anglophilic architecture

Designed by esteemed architect Julian Bicknell, the properties at Magna Carta Park celebrate a range of British architectural styles, such as Queen Anne, Regency and other modern interpretations of historical and opulent buildings. Although different, they all work together to create a classic English setting. The most relevant designs to the world of Bridgerton would be the Georgian-style buildings of ‘Albermarle’, ‘Clavering’ and ‘Quincy’.

‘Albermarle’ is the name for the grand, detached properties on the main square, whilst ‘Clavering’ is the name of the two townhouses, both built in a formal Regency style. Bridgerton was partly filmed on location in Bath due the historic Regency architecture that surrounds the city, a style from which Magna Carta Park was inspired. As these lavish properties are architecturally similar, they would be ideal for any fans of the TV series.

The three- and four-bedroomed townhouses, ‘Quincy’, are also reflective of a Bridgerton setting. They are built in a Regency style, and these homes proudly display a traditional stucco-fronted façade like a property you may see in Belgravia in London. These renowned Belgravia properties were designed by famous architect Thomas Cubitt, who was critical to the era that Bridgerton portrays. In London, the members of The Ton would be seen strolling in front of buildings with an almost identical appearance to ‘Quincy’, showcasing the latest fashions and admiring the surrounding architecture.

A high-society location

In Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte plays a key role, attending and hosting the social occasions of the season and assessing the new debutants of The Ton.

Magna Carta Park sits only a few miles away from HM The Queen of England herself, and benefits from clear views of the royal residence, Windsor Castle. Windsor Castle is the largest occupied castle in the world and has been the venue for many recent royal events watched by the world, such as the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and the funeral of HRH The late Duke of Edinburgh. It will also soon be the home of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations this coming June.

Magna Carta Park is also perfectly placed for those attending the year’s key events and sits at the heart of Surrey’s social scene. The famous equestrian events at Guards Polo Club and Ascot are all within close proximity to the estate, whilst the nearby Wentworth Club hosts the BMW PGA Championships.

A perfect promenade

In the world of Bridgerton, the afternoons of The Ton are often spent strolling around open green spaces, potentially with a suitor or discussing the latest gossip in Lady Whistledown’s society papers with acquaintances. Residents of Magna Carta Park have 57 acres of parkland on their doorstep, where woodland walks can be enjoyed, as well as natural play for children.

In addition, the walled garden is an ideal spot to appreciate the outdoors. Originally designed when the estate was a private home, the walled garden is a lovely collection of plants, flowers and arbours. The garden is also framed by lime trees, which have been arranged to maximise the views and create a floral window into the English countryside and on to Windsor Castle.
