Show Home Room By Room: 101 On Cleveland, Fitzrovia
Informed by a deep understanding of the rich history, culture, and context of 18th Century Fitzrovia, from Charles Dickens to Chippendale, the home’s unique interiors boast works by over 40 different craftsmen to design a collectors city retreat.
Creating a modern bohemia, this penthouse is a contemporary take on Chippendales values of furniture making, supporting craftsmanship and combining the old with the new.
Creative director and founder of Bergman & Mar, Petra Arko, takes us through the inspiration and design of the penthouse…
“When designing 101 on Cleveland, we wanted it to reflect the eclectic neighbourhood and its history. Fitzrovia's rich history informs the interior while creating a modern city home. From Charles Dickins and Chippendale, the interiors draw inspiration from the Victorian era, its revival of style and eclecticism mixed with the Middle East and Asian influences. The period was known for dark jewel tones and dark hues, such as deep reds, blues, and greens layered with mahogany, walnut, and gold. The interiors proposed are a subtle modern continuation of Chippendale's appreciation of craftsmanship and eclecticism, introducing these values using contemporary pieces of furniture made from British and global finest artisans and furniture designers.
“Our focus was to create a luxurious city home that is comfortable yet unique. We paid attention to bringing many different tactile materials and using softer shapes. As it's a new apartment, we wanted to give the space a sense of established home by using warmer colour hues and collecting vintage styling items, art and books.”
Living Room

The art piece painted by Fernanda Galvao was our focal point for the living room. We instantly fell in love with the mix of colours used throughout this piece, and our scheme complimented the colours beautifully. We've used a combination of antique items and made sure to include statement pieces such as the Camaleonda Sofa by Mario Bellini which brings the entire scheme together.
Master bedroom

We worked with the London-based makers to design the high gloss lacquered scarlet vanity, which adds a touch of richness and warmth to the master bedroom. Made from ethically sourced solid oak with brass feet details, we kept a subtle nod to the timber's natural grain and texture by using a high gloss painted finish to highlight the timber's natural movement. We designed this vanity to adapt to the bedroom's layout, which fits snug in the master bedroom and creates a touch of elegance to the space.
A vintage vanity chair from France was sourced to sit alongside the vanity in the master bedroom. The chair particularly stood out to us due to its classic curved shape.
We chose the Lunar Pendant by Pietro Russo for the bedside lighting. The Rosso Levanto marble paired with a white onyx diffuser is an excellent contrast between carved stone and soft light casting from onyx.
Study

We worked with Martelo & Mo to design the pippy oak desk, which is truly beautiful due to its unique shape and finish, giving it a charming and rustic character. The sharp yet soft form of the desk creates a timeless look that creates much interest and beauty when paired with the pippy oak finish.
We chose a selection of Antique books by Michael Simon White Collection. Michael Simon White was a British theatrical impresario and film producer with a loveable personality in the entertainment world. Michael spent a lot of time in various parts of the globe, collecting many books which bear his ownership signature. 1st edition books from his collection are spread across the apartment, covering themes such as fiction, film, tv, theatre and biography''
