First Phase Of Development Unveiled In St Eval

Posted 22 October 2020 by Keith Osborne

The first 61 homes are now for sale at a brand new development in an historic village just a few miles from Cornwall's coast...

Wainhomes has just launched its New Church Town development in the renowned village of St Eval, located midway between Padstow and Newquay and less than five miles from the north Cornish coast.

Now, potential buyers can make an appointment to visit the newly opened three-bedroom semi-detached show home, known as the ‘Hawker’. It’s one of 61 homes in its first phase which will provide a range of two-, three- and four-bedroom property types.

The village boasts a long history. Evidence of Trevisker pottery – found in an excavation 60 years ago – suggests that St Eval was the first Bronze Age settlement of its type in the UK. The local primary school, rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted, sits on top of what was once the Trevisker Round and hut settlement.

Just before the Second World War, much of the village was acquired by compulsory purchase order to build an RAF Coastal Command Station – RAF St Eval. Many buildings were demolished leaving only the vicarage, Trevisker Farm and the Norman church.

The church subsequently played a key part in the war, with its 18th-century tower used as an observation post and navigation mark for allied pilots. Today, visitors can pay their respects to the 21 war graves found in the peaceful churchyard which is maintained by the War Graves Commission.

The name of Wainhomes new development reflects a new chapter in the village’s history, hence New Church Town.

Sales director Katie Alderton said: “We are immensely proud to be part of St Eval’s ongoing story. There has been a number of buyers already drawn to the village, no doubt due to its rich history and coastal location which is just a short distance from nearby Mawgan Porth and its beautiful west facing beach. The development is also getting a lot of attention from families thanks to the village’s wonderful community feel and the fact that it’s just a short distance to the local primary school, pre-school and social club – and that’s before even mentioning the chocolate factory with its adjoining café, which while temporarily closed, we all hope will reopen again soon.”

Visits to the site can be arranged and adhere to strict health and safety standards for the benefit of guests and staff. The marketing suite is open from Thursday to Monday between 10.00am and 5.00pm.

Current availability includes the two-bedroom ‘Lockhead’ and ‘Handley’ properties, priced from £214,950 and £229,950 respectively, the three-bedroom ‘Fairey’ and ‘Hawker’ styles, priced from £249,950 and £284,950 respectively, and the four-bedroom ‘Beaufort’ and ‘Beaufort G’ home types, both priced from £304,950.
