Pantone have announced their Colour of The Year as 'Classic Blue'. WhatHouse? takes a look at two elegant showhomes decorated in this on-trend tone...

Pantone have announced that Colour of The Year for 2020 is Classic Blue. Interiors Editor Rory Robertson looks at two show homes which demonstrate how to work the tone into interiors.

Oatfield, Cults, Aberdeen (Cala Homes)

CALA Homes has unveiled the exclusive Oatfield showhome at its prestigious Craigton Mews development in Cults, Aberdeen, which comprises just 15 homes. This is the first time the housetype has been built in Scotland and the stylish showhome offers homebuyers the chance to explore the aspirational lifestyle on offer within this new three-bedroom home. Designed by Haus Interiors, the sleek showhome has been influenced by the Pantone Colour of the Year for 2020, classic blue, with pops of blue shades found throughout the home.

The open-plan kitchen and dining area has been designed with families in mind as an inviting space to enjoy spending time together and take in the views of the garden from the French doors which lead to a patio area. The room has a light and spacious feel complemented by a pastel colour palette and sleek white kitchen units, which contrasts with a grey oak effect splashback. Oak effect panels can also be found in the dining area, where they frame a cleverly wall mounted TV which blends seamlessly into the hub of the home. A round glass dining table with on trend navy chairs overlooks the garden, creating the perfect space to entertain.

The lounge is bright and airy with further French doors leading into the garden, but it can also be transformed into a cosy haven. It features a stunning statement fireplace, floor to ceiling navy curtains and built in book shelves which flank the fireplace to create an eye-catching symmetry in the room. The feature wallpaper has been inspired by dusk and is complemented by touches of gold and antique bronze accents in the coffee table, accessories and ceiling lights, which adds a sense of opulence to the room.

Classic Blue tones continue into the master bedroom. Deep navy textured wallpaper frames a plush super king bed with a supersize headboard featuring a geometric design. Navy satin floor to ceiling curtains add to the cosy, boutique hotel feel of the room. The master bedroom also features fitted wardrobes and a spacious en-suite. The Oatfield showhome also includes a separate dining room located on the ground floor as well as two further bedrooms and a family bathroom on the first floor.

Fraser Carr, Sales and Marketing Director at CALA Homes (North), said:

“We are delighted to bring the Oatfield housetype to homebuyers in Aberdeen."

“It is an excellent flexible home for families and we’re confident it will prove popular. The showhome at Craigton Mews perfectly showcases this brand new housetype, demonstrating how its stylish spaces can be used for family life, entertaining and relaxing."

“We’d encourage anyone interested in this fantastic pocket of homes to visit our spectacular showhome.”

Craigton Mews is located in the popular suburb of Cults. It comprises just 15 properties which are a mix of five and three-bedroom detached and semi-detached homes.

Prices start from £429,950 for a three-bedroom semi-detached Oatfield home.

Sidmouth, Ross On Wye (Edenstone Homes)

Edenstone Homes has opened a Sidmouth show home at St Mary’s Garden Village. The surprisingly spacious three-bedroom property demonstrates perfectly how this type of home is designed for modern living.

Styled in-house by the Edenstone team in Classic Blue, it’s proving popular with buyers.

Sales director Adele McCoy explains:

“We opened the Sidmouth as a show home to dispel any misconceptions of bungalows being the preserve of more mature homeowners. Single storey homes have broad appeal and can work for almost every type of buyer including young families, professionals and, of course, downsizers."

“Styled in Classic Blue, the Pantone colour of the year for 2020, the show home is very much on trend. It’s a resilient colour that works well throughout the living areas.”

Adele adds:

“The show home demonstrates that blue is very much the new grey as it works well with so many other colours, with lots of combinations to choose from."

“For example, the bold shade of the kitchen units provides a solid and timeless foundation, demonstrating the versatility of Classic Blue. We’ve carried this through to the soft furnishings and accessories in the dining area and living room, creating a sense of calm.”

The Sidmouth offers 1,012 sq ft of carefully considered living space, with an open plan kitchen, dining area and living room to maximise the potential of the floor plan.

The master bedroom has a glamorous feel to it. A deep buttoned black fabric headboard sits in front of a shimmering feature wall. A black throw and coordinating cushions, all with diamantes, add a sense of drama to the room. Mirrored bedsides, with lamps with black shades positioned on top, complete the look.

With an en-suite to master bedroom, the main bathroom serves the remaining two bedrooms. The second bedroom is finished in mink and metallics, with more classic wooden bedsides and coordinating chest of drawers. Windows to two sides of this room offer lots of natural light, which is further enhanced by the mirrored fitted wardrobes and statement light above the bed.

The third bedroom is also very much on trend, featuring geometric wallpaper and white and oak furniture.

The wider 290-home development will eventually include a host of facilities including a community building with equipped indoor gym, community hall and kitchen. Residents will be able to enjoy an abundance of open space including play areas; walking trail with outdoor exercise equipment; a kick about area; cycle hire facilities; allotments with raised beds, plus an orchard and meadow.

A Sidmouth, similar to the show home, is available from £319,995.
