Habitat First Group has launched a group of sustainable homes in a nature reserve in Dorset…

A group of sustainable, future-proofed homes in an ecological nature reserve in Dorset have been launched by Habitat First Group, as part of its high-end Silverlake development.

The Heritage Collection homes feature two stunning house designs that have ecology and sustainability at their core. The two-storey, four- and five-bedroom family friendly homes are designed to reflect either a converted countryside barn or a glass fronted summer house. They sit on spacious plots of land with exclusive access to the site’s Nature Garden.

Silverlake in Dorset is one of the UK’s most exclusive second-home resorts, built in a repurposed former quarry. It has been carefully converted into an ecological haven, featuring hundreds of acres of lakes, woodlands and heathland, supporting thousands of species of flora and fauna, including otters, dormice and a stunning array of wild birds.

Sustainable features of the homes themselves include the use of locally sourced materials, high specification Structurally Insulated Panels and come fully future-proofed with an Air Source heat pump and fibre to the property. Photovoltaics and Tesla batteries can also be added as simple upgrades.

Prices for the Heritage Collection start at £695,000 for the summer house designs and £900,000 for the barn designs, which includes the freehold purchase of the plot of land with existing planning consent, and the construction and delivery of the specified house type. As well as owning the freehold for the plot, homeowners also benefit from a reduced stamp duty, as this is only paid on the land value, and can benefit from zero-rated VAT on the new build construction contract.

The Barn: Designed by architect Willmore Iles, the distinctive Cotswolds tiled pitched roof, gable ends and an almost entirely glass frontage combine to give the Barn a very spacious, airy feel. Their flexible design can be configured to suit small and large families. The houses can be finished in cedar, stone and/or render.

Build time for the homes are just 15 months and all properties also come with a unique commissioned artwork of a World War II plane previously stationed at Silverlake, when it was used as an RAF Base. Included in the total cost of the property is a full specification interior package that includes a designer Et Lorem kitchen, Villeroy & Boch sanitaryware, Siemens and Neff appliances, Porcelanosa tiles, underfloor heating and a Contura wood burning stove.

Residents at Silverlake have access to an onsite spa and gym, tennis courts, a pizza shack, activity hub and a seemingly endless supply of countryside and lakes for playing in. Homeownership at Silverlake is designed to be hassle free with maintenance, security and management of the grounds and properties provided as standard.
