First Residents Move In At Popular North London Scheme
Far East Consortium (FEC) has welcomed its first residents to Uren House at their iconic Hornsey Town Hall development in the heart of Crouch End.
This milestone marks the first of many towards the much-anticipated grand opening of this legendary Art Deco Grade II* listed landmark.
Over 70 residents now reside in their new homes in the grounds of the Town Hall, which is proving hugely popular, with 75% of homes now sold, 90% of which are local owner-occupiers, including first-time buyers and downsizers.
The development is located in the heart of one of London’s most loved urban villages, which has just been named The Sunday Times Best Place to Live in London 2023. A panel of judges last month that assessed its amenities and praised its cultural scene, supermarkets, independent businesses, green spaces, cafés and restaurants, lido and location.
Reginald Uren was commissioned as the lead architect to design the Town Hall in the early 1930s which would house Hornsey Borough Council. It is one of the earliest and most iconic examples of modernist architecture in Britain. The original features have been resorted and retained, to include the grand staircases, terrazzo flooring, original ironmongery and metal balustrades.
FEC is restoring The Town Hall and Town Hall Square, transforming it into a destination address and vibrant addition to north London’s property market and culture. Community spaces play a big role here. The development houses a new Arts Centre operated by Time + Space, café, restaurants, roof terrace with views of Alexandra Palace, co-working space tailored to creatives and Dao by Dorsett Hotel.
Award-winning Make Architects, the inspiration behind the architecture and Design of Hornsey Town Hall, have not only restored the unique period features found throughout The Hall, but channelled its distinctive modernist style into the apartments. Spread across three newly built blocks and the restored annex building there is a selection of one- and two-bedroom homes still available, ranging in size from 535 sq ft to 1,000 sq ft. They benefit from open-plan living areas and airy bedrooms with floor-to-ceiling windows flooding them with natural light. Referencing the Town Hall, Art Deco themes run throughout homes from chevron timber flooring in the halls and living areas to balconies lined with detailed metal balustrades.
