Family’s excitement builds as new home takes shape

Posted 15 May 2017 by Helen Christie

After a long search for a new home, Lisa Abbott and Kevin Power are looking forward to making their dream move to a new home at The Maples in Buntingford…

The couple had eagerly anticipated the launch of the Redrow development, travelling to Cambridgeshire to view Redrow show homes to appreciate the layouts and quality of finish of the Heritage Collection designs before being able to look inside a finished property locally.

Pleased with what they saw, they reserved a five-bedroom detached Hertford style property.

Lisa explains: “We live in a four-bedroom detached house in Buntingford and wanted to stay in the area but there was nothing available that met our requirements until Redrow launched The Maples. We were open to buying a new home or an old one. Because we’d been looking for a long time we knew about the development from when it was going through planning and had been waiting for the homes to come onto the market.”

Kevin cited the location of the development and the position of their new home, plus the quality of build Redrow is renowned for, as the top reasons why they were keen to reserve at an early stage.

Kevin says: “We wanted a larger home with more space and a garage, but were keen to stay in the Buntingford area because we’ve built up a group of friends here and there’s a good sense of community. It’s a place that’s close enough to London but far enough away to be able to enjoy countryside dog walks or a round of golf.”

Lisa adds: “Our youngest has two more years at school so moving out of the area wasn’t an option. Aoife can see the development from her school and is one very excited teenager as she’s getting the second biggest bedroom with an en-suite.”

Their new home is an expansive double fronted property with dual aspect lounge complemented by an open plan kitchen, dining and family room. A separate utility keeps the washer/dryer out of the kitchen; while a study provides a dedicated space for home-working. A cloakroom completes the ground floor accommodation.

Upstairs, all five bedrooms are generously proportioned and as two of them boast en-suites this should minimise the morning rush for the family bathroom.

Kevin continues: “The Maples is an exclusive development and unlike other new housing estates the homes aren’t being built on top of each other. There are only three of this house type on the development and we were only interested in two of them. The house we reserved has a huge garden and overlooks open countryside at the front. It’s one of the gateway plots with a small private road.”

Kevin, is regional head of training excellence (Europe) for a pharmaceutical company and Lisa is a local account manager for a pharmaceutical company.

They’re scheduled to move in this summer and have been enjoying customising their new home to their taste.

Kevin says: “We’ve looked around the show home four times. Buying a brand new home is exciting and we can’t wait to move in. It’s been nice to be able to choose the finishes, which we’ve done online with My Redrow and with the help of Louise the sales consultant.”

Lisa adds: “We can see our house from the road and drive past quite often to have a look. We’re desperately curious to have a look inside. The site manager has said that as soon as it’s possible he will give us a hard hat tour.”
