The Monaghan family – Tim, Cath and daughter Abi – purchased one of the three-bedroom houses at Avondale, called ‘The Japonica’.

Cath said: “We bought our first house together in Braintree over 20 years ago and we’ve had quite a few homes since, including four new builds. We’ve had a couple of older houses too, but we like new build because everything’s done for you – it saves decorating.”

The couple did most of their house-hunting online and were attracted to Avondale by its rural location and excellent transport links. Outlet centre Braintree Village is just a five-minute drive away, while Cressing railway station is within easy walking distance.

Cath added: “We knew what we wanted, so we just went to look at two other houses and the one we eventually bought. What we liked about Avondale is that it’s a bit out in the country and yet has Cressing station close by as well.

“I love the kitchen/diner. We were looking to extend our last house to save moving again, but in the end the move here was overall a better deal. After this move, we’re hoping this is it now. This house has got everything we want, including a lovely-sized garden. It’s got a good layout, a good spec and it’s very well designed.”
