Barratt Homes boosts investment in new homes in Scotland

Keith OsborneNational housebuilder Barratt Developments has announced its plans to open 14 new developments across Scotland in the coming months.
Barratt’s current activities in Scotland already underpin employment for around 4,500 and it is expected that the new sites – which will provide over 1,400 new homes – will sustain an extra 300 jobs, as the company predominately employs local sub-contractors and tradesmen.
Last year, Barratt Developments– named Sustainable Developer of the Year at the WhatHouse? Awards 2015 – built around 1,390 homes north of the border, 48% of which were constructed on previously developed (brownfield) land. The new sites cover a range of areas, including Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Haddington, Linwood, Newmachar and Strathven.
Despite the withdrawal of Help to Buy Scotland, 2015 was a strong year for Barratt in Scotland for its Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, says regional director Doug McLeod.
“We have seen demand for new homes across Scotland remain high and our new sites will provide more choice for buyers looking to purchase in some of Scotland’s most sought-after residential locations,” he adds. “It’s also good news for the Scottish economy not just in terms of supporting local construction jobs, but also through the generation of local revenue from new residents spending in local shops and on local services.
“We know the positive social and economic impacts that our developments can make and we’ll be working closely with all the communities in which we’re building, to make sure we maximise those impacts as we progress.”
