Working from home influences the Williams family in their choice of Redrow home

Posted 13 January 2016 by Keith Osborne

The 'home office' is a reality for so many house-hunters, their final choice of new home depends on a suitable size and space to accommodate it...

With changes in technology and working practices leading to millions of us doing at least some of our work at home, it’s not surprising that many house-hunters look at the practicalities of a new home design before making their choice.

Phil Williams found that the four-bedroom ‘Windsor’ house type was ideal for him and his family, providing plenty of room to work from home, when they were looking for a property at Redrow’s Regent’s Grange development in Chester.

Business consultant Phil and his wife Stella have two young children, Amber, six, and Zachary, four, and he often does some of his job from his home. Space to both work and play was important for the whole family, and they found the layout and selection of rooms in the ‘Windsor’ to be the ideal choice.

Regent's Grange“I use the fourth bedroom as an office,” Phil says. “My wife works in Chester so the location and size of the house has ticked all of our boxes.”

Situated just a short distance from the city centre, Regent’s Grange is a very practical choice for Chester workers who want their office to be close to home or for those who work from home. Many of the property types on offer – such as the ‘Windsor’, ‘Oxford’ and ‘Stratford’ have either dedicated office space or an adaptable to put a desk and computer, out of the way of everyday home life.

Jason Newton, sales director for Redrow Homes (NW), says: “Figures from the Office of National Statistics show a record number of people (4.2million) people now work from home at least part of their week and Regus reports 37% of Chester workers are now based outside of their main office for more than half the week.

“The internet and the ability to work remotely has played a key role in this shift, along with people’s desire to spend more time with their families rather than enduring a lengthy commute. For those who work in Chester or who work from home, either part-time or full-time, Regent’s Grange is the perfect place for a family keen to readdress their work / life balance.”

Current prices at Regent’s Grange start from £309,995 for a four-bedroom ‘Stratford’ house type. A range of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, including the ‘Oxford’ and ‘Windsor’ styles, is coming soon on the site, which is located in the sought-after village of Huntington. Help to Buy, Part Exchange and Mastermove assistance schemes are available, subject to terms and conditions.
