Working from home isn’t a chore for Gary Porter, who’s enjoying life in his brand new house at Bellway’s Little Meadow development in Cranleigh.

Gary, the owner of design and print company, Magpie Marketing UK, bought his new home using the government-backed Help to Buy scheme, moving into the one-bedroom Daffodil house from a rented flat in the village.

Help to Buy allows purchasers to buy a new build home with a 5% deposit and a 75% mortgage. The remaining 20% is provided in the form of an equity loan from the government, which is interest free for the first five years of homeownership.

Gary, 44, says: “Help to Buy has made owning my first new home achievable for me, and I really wouldn’t have been able to secure my new property in Surrey without it. Whoever is eligible for the scheme should definitely look into it as an option and I would strongly recommend it to those who it is available to. Being the owner of a brand new property feels great, and the location of the property makes it a great investment.”

Gary runs his business, Magpie Marketing UK, from his new home office and is delighted with his new working environment.

He continues: “My new home has a great modern interior and offers plenty of space, making it an ideal place to use as a base for my business.”

Having previously rented a flat in Guildford, Gary is looking forward to making the most of the great outdoors, whether it’s in his own garden or the picturesque surrounding countryside.

“Having my own garden space is one of the things high on my list when looking to buy. Cranleigh is situated amongst stunning countryside, and I’m now preparing to make the most of it this summer. The homes at Little Meadow are built on a lovely rural meadow. The builders have done a solid job on the homes and they are laid out very well. Surrey Hills is one of my favourite places to go mountain biking, and is now right on my doorstep. My new location has allowed me to make the most of the idyllic routes that surround the development. Overall, my neighbourhood and new home are perfect.”
