Victorian Homes Lose To Modern Three-Storey Living
Flexible living is becoming a priority for more and more people following the experience of lockdown and adapting to using the home for work and school.
But even before the coronavirus crisis, there were plenty of house-hunters finding the space and layout of the latest three-storey properties the best option, including these who opted for one of Taylor Wimpey’s new builds rather than a period Victorian home.
Craig Houston and Summer Yang sold a four-bedroom Victorian cottage and moved into a spacious five-bedroom ‘Wilton’ house at the Meadowsweet Farm development in Leamington Spa last December, securing their new home with the help of Taylor Wimpey’s Easymover scheme and Help to Buy.
Craig said: “When we visited Meadowsweet Farm, the views over Bishops Tachbrook were really stunning. It is so rare to get countryside views with a new development but at Meadowsweet Farm there is plenty of greenery to walk around. We were looking for somewhere with a spacious layout and the ‘Wilton’ provides that, especially as it is spread over three floors. We wanted to be closer to the transport links in Leamington Spa as we work locally but we also use the top floor as a home office which is ideal if one of us needs to work late.”
Summer remarked: “We spent two years renovating our previous home and we just wanted to enjoy our next one without any refurbishment.”
Craig added: “Once we started using Easymover, it was very simple to sell our old house. Taylor Wimpey managed the whole buying and selling process and allowed us to focus on our new home. There is nothing we would change about our house buying decision and we look forward to many years in our dream home.”
Meadowsweet Farm currently has a selection of two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes available, starting from £289,995.
Tania Hynard originally put an offer on a two-bedroom Victorian home in Wargrave when she was looking to purchase the perfect home for herself and her two grown-up children, Jake and Niamh, but found the ideal home at Loddon Park development in Woodley, Berkshire.
Thinking about the upkeep of an older property, the family decided to visit Loddon Park to take a look at some new build homes. Tania said: “My first impressions of Loddon Park were very positive. The layout of the development is great and although it is fairly big it still feels like a close-knit community. I also liked that all the homes had different qualities.”
The Hynards were drawn to a three-bedroom townhouse house type and quickly put an offer in with the sales team, moving there in January this year. Tania continued: “I love the whole layout of the townhouses, but especially the top floor, as it offers me total privacy. The three bedrooms are spacious, even the smallest bedroom can fit a double bed, and with three bathrooms it is perfect for me and my two older children. Our home looks clean and fresh and I’m in love with it.
“We also have the added bonus of integrated appliances being included and the sleek look and feel of the kitchen, such as the under-cupboard lights, are a great feature. I didn’t expect carpet and turf to be included either, so I am very pleased.”
With a growing vibrant community, Loddon Park is located on the outskirts of Reading, in the tranquil town of Woodley. Loddon Park has all the amenities and connections of the city with the benefits of rural living.
There are still a wide range of three- and four-bedroom terraced, semi-detached and detached houses for sale at Loddon Park, priced from £420,000.
