Buyers Benefit From Care Worker Discount In Devon

Posted 30 October 2020 by Keith Osborne

Two examples of well-deserving care workers getting a special price cut on their new homes through Taylor Wimpey...

Taylor Wimpey has seen a couple of recent examples of buyers qualifying for the company’s Care Worker Discount scheme in the purchase of their new homes in Devon developments.

Registered nurse Humberto de Matos is buying a new home at Riverside Walk development in Exeter with his wife Joana, a dentist, and their six-month-old son. Having moved from Porto, Portugal, to a rental property in London, the couple were looking for a more permanent base close to the coast.

Humberto said: “We wanted a house we could simply move into, without doing renovations or worrying about problems that could arise with the house in the near future. Buying new means we have a warranty in place that acts as a peace of mind. The fact that new homes are more energy efficient is also very important for us.”

The family got a 5% discount on their home through the Taylor Wimpey scheme, which also includes free carpets and vinyl throughout the house.

Humberto said: “The 5% Care Worker Discount really means a lot as a gesture of recognition for the work I and other nurses and healthcare professionals do every day and night of the year. To have a building company that appreciates our role in society by offering such a discount is a real testament to the company’s values.”

The couple chose Riverside Walk after spending time in the sought-after Topsham area of Exeter. They picked the three-bedroom ‘Byford’ house type as the perfect space for a family to grow.

Humberto said: “The first impression we got was very positive as aesthetically the development just blends into the existing housing. The area is very quiet, with just the river to one side and some parks nearby to take our six-month-old. We chose the ‘Byford’ for two reasons. First was the fact that it has an en suite in the master bedroom, but second and most important is the fact that the kitchen and living room are linked by a corridor which gives a sense of flow throughout the ground floor. We plan to open that corridor in the future by removing part of the wall separating the kitchen and living room, making it almost like a big open space. We envisioned it as soon as we saw the model home.”

Buying a new home during a pandemic presents a number of challenges for customers and Taylor Wimpey staff, but Humberto and Joana have nothing but praise for the Riverside Walk sales team. “The whole process was extremely easy and straightforward,” said Humberto. “The sales executives Karen and Yvonne made it a pressure-free experience. It’s refreshing to deal with people that are actually there to help the customer by making the experience of buying a house uncomplicated. They were flexible and helped us to work through any problems that arose during the process.”

Plumb ParkPlumb Park

Nurse practitioner Ashley and his engineer husband James discovered Taylor Wimpey’s Plumb Park in Exmouth. The community-focused development is formed around a hilltop park, known locally as Donkey Hill, giving beautiful sea views all year round, and has been designed to complement the much-admired adjacent neighbourhood known at The Avenues, with tree-lined streets and Arts & Crafts-inspired homes.

The couple had previously lived in a new build home and after meeting the Plumb Park sales team and seeing the development in person, it was an easy decision to choose the four-bedroom ‘Knowle’ house type. Although the Plumb Park sales office was closed for a number of weeks as Taylor Wimpey sought to minimise the spread of Covid-19, they were still able to see what their new home would look like through virtual tours and video calls with the sales team.

Ashley said: “We chose the ‘Knowle’ as we liked the layout of the house and it was big enough to meet our needs. A couple of the other four-bedroom houses felt a bit too big for us, but we could see our family starting and growing up in this house, which is the vision for our new home.

“Purchasing remotely using the Touchpoint system was a great initiative. It allowed us to choose the options for our new home whilst sitting in the comfort of our current home with a cuppa, not being rushed into making any decisions on the spot. The kitchen design is generated before your eyes and you can play about with options to make sure you visualise the kitchen in your dream home. It also prices the extras up as you go along, giving us an idea of what we were potentially spending and how much overtime we would need to put in at work to cover the cost.”

“We are really thankful to Taylor Wimpey – their kind gesture has made our dream home come true. We can now stop doing the extra overtime at work and finally get excited about moving into our new forever home soon.”
