New Neighbours Rally To Help Couple Move In
Moving home is not impossible right now though it’s not always straightforward – but community spirit really helped a couple settle in at their new home in Dumfries.
As Jessica and Stephen Devlin moved into their new house at Story Homes’ Summerpark, their new neighbours were able to donate some furniture and household essentials to let them settle down in comfort there. Having previously been living in Berkshire, they had been temporarily living in a holiday-let home but on moving to their brand new property were unable to access anything they had in storage due to COVID-19 business restrictions.
But upon hearing of their predicament, sales executive Amanda Blyth – who happens to live at the development – wasted no time in getting the neighbourhood to help the couple. She used the community’s Facebook page to asking people to donate any spare household items that could be loaned to the Devlins.
The response was outstanding and neighbours were able to find everything needed to make a house a home. Among the things lent were a sofa bed, blow-up mattress and bedding, a television and stand, tables and chairs, kitchen equipment, lamps, crockery and cutlery. Amanda and her daughter Dannii took an evening to collect and deliver everything, and even purchased a kettle for them. The Devlins were absolutely delighted by the kindness of them and the neighbours.
Amanda said: “As soon as we heard that our customers weren’t able to access any of their furniture, we knew we had to do something right away. I posted on the Summerpark Community Facebook Group asking if anyone was able to loan the customers any household items and the response was fantastic. We made sure we did everything safely, delivering the items to Jessica and Stephen’s driveway for them to collect.”
