Ben SalisburyFirst-time buyers are increasingly becoming aware of the government’s Help to Buy scheme and its merit in aiding their journey onto the property ladder.
Newly married software architect Surendranath Machupalli, a 31-year-old software architect from London, was able to purchase his ideal home through the Help to Buy scheme in Bewley Homes’ Berkshire development, Parklands in rural Earley that allows him to easily commute to the capital for work.
He was struggling to find a home which met his high professional standards, that was also positioned close to London and within his budget.
He says: “I am more discerning than most people and design was key for me. The apartment has a spacious layout and is well-lit which accentuates the space. I had rented all my life, moving properties every year because I felt like I wouldn’t be able to find somewhere perfect that I could afford. However, now that I am married, I decided it would be best to buy and settle down.”
After a friend - who has also purchased in the area - recommended Bewley Homes, Surendranath found a two-bedroom flat at its Parklands development.
“I did not actually plan to buy the property. I only went to speak with the Bewley Homes team about their developments, but decided to put down my reservation fee there and then.”
Mr Machupalli purchased his new apartment with a 5% deposit of the £295,000 asking price at just £14,750 and was very satisfied with his experience of Help to Buy via Bewley Homes.
He adds: “Bewley Homes were both friendly and professional. The staff were very helpful and made sure that everything was done on time. I moved into the property in August, just one month after purchasing.”
Now that Surendranath has had a chance to settle in, he is delighted with his new home: “I had not come across another highly finished new build which was as affordable as Parklands. There are great amenities which come with the development such as parking – I couldn’t ask for more from a home.”
Becoming a homeowner on a single income thanks to the Help to Buy scheme - Surendranath and his wife look forward to enjoying village living while being well-connected to Reading and London.
Parklands has a selection of four and five bedroom homes remaining, with prices starting at £447,500. The development is just over an hour to central London, with good public transport links. While Junction 10 of the M4 is just five miles away.
