Retired Couple Escape To The Country

Posted 11 February 2020

A retired couple have relocated from London to the tranquil village of Marden in Kent, finding the move a refreshing change of pace...

Les and Michele Foulsham, both 67, have purchased a new four-bedroom house at Jones Homes’ Appledown Grange development in the village, describing the move from their old home in Hayes as the best decision they’ve ever made.

The couple had looked at a number of developments in the Maidstone area before falling in love with Appledown Grange.

Michele, who worked as a team leader for Direct Line before retiring, comments:

“We visited the show home at the development, and I loved it straight away. It wasn’t just the house; the location was a big part of our decision. Marden is such a beautiful village.

It’s such a great little development, I can see a community beginning to form and we have thrown ourselves into that, joining the Marden village social club where there is live music and activities. They’re holding a wreath making session next week, and we are looking to join the bowls club, too.”

Les, who has lived in South East London for most of his life, says:

“I wasn’t too keen on the thought of moving originally, but after visiting the development a few times it really started to grow on me. Now, when I pull up on the drive, I can’t wait to get in. It really feels like home. All of the staff at the development have been amazing. From the site team to the sales advisors, they have been really responsive and helpful.”

Les and Michele have been married for 46 years, spending most of that time living in the Hayes area, so they are new to village life.

Michele comments:

“The village is beautiful, it’s all such a lovely way of life. There is no more going to the big superstores – now I can just walk down the road to the farm shop and butcher in the village. It’s great that we have some time for us. It’s the best decision I have ever made, I am so happy - I have a smile on my face all the time.”

Jones Homes is building a range of three, four and five-bedroom homes at Appledown Grange, which is located off Howland Road, Marden.
