First-Time Buyers Reserve First Home At Haddenham Development
First-time buyers, Dermot and Lauren Cavanagh, were the first to reserve a new home at Redrow Thames Valley’s development, The Maltings, in Haddenham, after attending a launch event at neighbouring development, Sanderson Park, in Bicester.
Lauren, originally from Wales, had been renting a property in Putney with her husband Dermot, who was born in Ireland, when the pair decided to swap city life for a rural escape. Although both based in London, with Lauren practising law at a firm in Hammersmith and Dermot working in the finance sector in the city, the couple had become tired of the rising costs of London life and its busy nature.
Having been married for almost a year, and after Lauren visited a friend for dinner who recently moved to the beautiful village of Haddenham, the couple decided to see what was on offer. The couple were keen to find a home in the region that had quick, commutable routes to the capital, and a strong community feel was also at the top of Dermot and Lauren’s search criteria.
When they heard about The Maltings, the couple were attracted to the four-bedroom Harrogate, a home ideal for family life, offering a balance between open-plan living and spacious lounges and bedrooms.

When asked for advice and top tips for future first-time buyers, Dermot says: “It takes lots of discipline and motivation to be able to save – one piece of advice I’d share is to always put money aside at the beginning of the month, and stick to your budget from there.”
After seeing The Maltings, the couple were impressed by Redrow’s design and overall approach. Lauren says: “We had seen so many houses from different developers, and the Heritage Collection from Redrow was in a different league – especially in comparison to other new build properties. The bedrooms were all generously sized, and the exterior design of each property was picture perfect with its traditional character. We were keen to continue married life together with a blank canvas so that everything was in place for us to make our first official house together a home, as we hopefully welcome some little ones in the years to come. We loved the idea of moving to a new development and the community feel that comes when people all share a similar experience at the same time. We couldn’t be more excited about beginning our Redrow journey together – and the plot couldn’t be more perfect. I’ve already started envisioning the interior design in every room and Dermot teases that I’m slowly becoming a ‘house-zilla’.
