Best-selling author M A Comley and her mother have swapped France for a picturesque location in Wales, moving into a new Barratt Homes development...

Best-selling thriller author Mel Comley has swapped life in France for a home at Barratt’s sought-after Penygarn Heights development near Cwmbran.

“I work from home - and my 79-year-old mother lives with me - so our aim was to find a picturesque location, close to all local amenities,” says Mel, 51. “And we certainly found that at Penygarn Heights. The development itself isn’t too big - which is great - the homes are stylish, and the setting is beautiful with spectacular views.”

Penygarn Heights offers a peaceful location and a range of three- and four-bedroom homes. Just 15 minutes outside Cwmbran, the development features views out over the mountains - providing the perfect combination of village life and luxury living.

“Once we decided to move to Wales from France, the most important thing was to find somewhere we both felt comfortable,” added Mel. “Apart from the benefits of the development itself, we loved the layout of the four bedroom Thame house design. It has a separate dining room downstairs, which could easily be transformed into a bedroom for my mother as she gets older.”

The Thame is a detached family home featuring a spacious lounge with french doors to the garden. As well as the separate dining room, there is a stylish kitchen with fully fitted units, a breakfasting area and utility room. Upstairs, the master bedroom has an en suite and there is an attractive family bathroom.

“From the moment we first looked at Penygarn Heights, the Barratt team has been a pleasure to communicate with,” says Mel. “Throughout the buying process and afterwards, we couldn’t have asked for more.

“Now we’re settling in nicely here, with everything we need on the doorstep. I’m very lucky because the nature of my work means I don’t have to commute but the transport links are excellent here, with easy access to local shops - and Pontypool and Cwmbran offer a whole range of amenities. This is a wonderful base for me to spend time writing. And I’m looking forward to many happy years here.”

Penygarn is located in a semi-rural setting in Torfaen. It offers all the quaint features of a community lifestyle, with good accessibility to nearby towns and the amenities of Cwmbran and Monmouth. The Ryder Cup course at the Celtic Manor is a short drive away. Commuters will find good transport links to Newport and Cardiff. The development offers tranquil living in a convenient location - the best of both worlds.
