A key worker couple haven’t let lockdown stop them moving safely into a brand new home in Lower Stondon, Bedfordshire.

Sam Bradfield is a deputy head teacher and her partner Peter Sharpe a medical engineer for the NHS, and they have utilised Mulberry Homes’ special assistance scheme to secure four-bedroom ‘Humberstone’ style home at Brunswick Gate.

The couple reserved their home off-plan back in November 2019, using Peter’s previous flat in St Albans in Part Exchange for the new home.

They have also benefitted from Mulberry Homes’ Key Worker scheme, which since the coronavirus outbreak has been extended to include all essential workers, and were able to upgrade their kitchen and pay for carpet throughout the property.

Peter said: ‘We were anxious that we wouldn’t be able to move but the team at Mulberry did everything they could to make it happen for us. Most things were done over the phone and online and when it came to moving day the team at Mulberry homes followed social distancing measures and they’ve been on hand remotely ever since to help with anything we needed.”

Peter has been going out to work, providing vital maintenance for hospital equipment including the ventilators at West Herts Hospital Trust which are being used to care for Covid-19 patients, whilst Sam has been working from home providing support to her team to ensure continued learning through online tuition for the students.

The layout of the house means they’ve been able to convert one of the bedrooms into a home study for Sam, and another of the bedrooms into a games room for Peter.

Lockdown has been made more bearable for the pair who are now able to enjoy the countryside views and outside space. Sam has even dusted off her bicycle and is going out to explore the area as part of her daily exercise.

She commented: “We feel so lucky to have made it in to our first home together and we are really making the most of the rural location. In fact, we actually have the best of both worlds here, with Hitchin just a few miles away, which has everything we need, boutique shops and eateries, yet is so much more affordable than the likes of St Albans.”

Kerry Jones, sales director for Mulberry Homes said: “We are delighted to be able to offer a scheme to help all our essential workers, such as people like Peter and Sam. All our homes are designed to fully maximise space and work for the way we like to live today, whether that’s working from home or to accommodate hobbies. We also handpick the locations of our developments close to beautiful countryside and with plenty of local amenities on the doorstep.

“The development has taken an unprecedented rate of reservations during the lockdown period with buyers purchasing via online video walk throughs.”

Prices start at £462,950 for a three-bedroom detached ‘Carlton’ style home with garage and generous driveway.
