Space And Location Appeal To Herefordshire Homebuyers

Posted 13 January 2021 by Keith Osborne

Some Herefordshire homebuyers on what attracted them to purchase their new homes by the Malvern Hills...

The great outdoors and the value-for-money of more spacious homes in rural areas have become a high priority more many house-hunters and two couples have found this and more in their brand new properties in Herefordshire.

Wendy is a public health nurse at Wye Valley NHS Trust, administering the Covid-19 vaccination, and she and her partner, transport manager Simon, were the first residents to move into their newly completed home at Living Space Housing’s Malvern Oaks development in the village of Cradley.

They have moved from the other side of the Malvern Hills to a spacious two-/three-bedroom ‘Stanford’ bungalow. They were able to use the housebuilder’s ‘thank you’ initiative of a Key Worker Discount Scheme which knocked £5,000 off their purchase price.

Wendy said: “We had been house-hunting for a year before the launch of Malvern Oaks. We had a specific checklist in mind and couldn’t find anything suitable. When the plans for Malvern Oaks became available we took a look at the range of homes, visited the area and knew it was meant to be. We have three dogs who have competed at Crufts and an eventing horse at stables in a nearby village, so access to countryside is very important to us. But we also wanted a stylish, modern home to suit our busy lives.

“We are so impressed by the build quality of our home and how accommodating and welcoming the whole Living Space team has been. The way the development has been planned out is so spacious, maximising the views to the Malvern Hills and the neighbouring fields. As a public health nurse, this is an exceptionally busy time for me, but the move has been very smooth and we are so delighted to be in. The kitchen has a really high-end feel to it and the space we have here is simply stunning.”

Only three of the 19 houses and bungalows at Malvern Oaks now remain for sale, all the three-bedroom ‘Welland’ house type, but there is still time to take advantage of Stamp Duty savings by securing one. Each is priced at £385,000 with contemporary fitted kitchens complete with a range of integrated appliances and all bathrooms and en suites featuring Porcelanosa wall tiling and complementary Karndean flooring.

A show home is open daily by appointment, from 10.00am to 5.00pm. Find out more at [email protected].

Eamonn and Jose have made a permanent UK home at David Wilson Homes’ St Catherine’s Grange in Ledbury, along with their two adopted dogs from Mexico. Having been renting, they purchased a detached three-bedroom ‘Hadley’ style home to enjoy more space and allow them to work from home.

Originally from Birmingham, Eamonn, an international education consultant, spent 20 years in Mexico City before returning to the UK after meeting Jose, who works in hotels and hospitality.

Eamonn continued: “I love the fact that our home is double fronted which gives a good sense of space on both the ground and first floor. A good-sized garden is great for the dogs and isn’t overlooked either. I have an office and the master and spare bedrooms are ideal for the two of us and guests, when we can have them over.

“It has been brilliant working from home. The best view in the house is from the office (third bedroom) window, where I can even see Wales in the distance, it has made working from home a real joy.”

“We chose to buy with David Wilson Homes because of the build quality, quality of the finishes and the developer’s reputation. The team in the sales office were very good to deal with, nothing was too much trouble to ask.”

Located in the heart of the Herefordshire countryside, it’s easy to see why St Catherine’s Grange is so popular, surrounded by history, cobbled streets and Georgian architecture. Green open space, treelined avenues and footpaths have been woven throughout the development, which currently offers a host of two-, three- and four-bedroom house designs.

Jose said: “Everyone on the street is so friendly and welcoming, it’s lovely to see the properties around us being completed and seeing the community develop. The rental home that we had before our new home, didn’t have dedicated parking. Knowing that we can come and go without the stress of finding a parking space is brilliant.

“Also, the house very quickly became a home and is lovely to spend time in – it is a place of comfort and happiness.”
