Downsizing To A New Home In Throapham

Posted 24 April 2023 by Helen Christie

A Sheffield couple are celebrating their second Harron Homes' purchase together as they downsize to enjoy retired life…

57-year-old Ann and 55-year-old Paul Hardy bought their first Harron home in 2016, a four-bedroom detached Warkworth at Harron Homes' Waverley development in Rotherham, large enough to accommodate the couple and their children.

Trained accountant Ann says: “At the time the location suited us perfectly for its proximity to Sheffield centre, it was very convenient for work. Now the kids have all grown up and we’re on the verge of retiring. It's time to downsize. We knew we wanted another new home; after looking at some older homes we knew we’d spend too much time undoing what previous owners have done!”

This time the couple opted for another four-bedroom home, a 'Settle' house type at Laughton Gate in Throapham where they’re due to move in the summer.

Ann continues: “The funny thing is, when we first looked at Harron homes, it was a Settle I fell in love with! My husband loved the Warkworth, and the extra living space was beneficial for us while the kids lived with us, but driving past Laughton Gate by chance and finding out there was a Settle available felt like fate. Sticking with a four-bedroom home was important to us to have plenty of space for guests, and with our first grandchild due soon we’re hoping the kids take full advantage of that offer! If anything, the timing worked out better for us this way; we’ve got the most fantastic plot lined up right on the front of the development overlooking the countryside.”

Ann adds: “We’re not planning to move again, and as we get older we’re conscious we may be restricted by driving in the future so Laughton’s semi-rural location where everything is still accessible on the doorstep is ideal. We’re looking forward to the peace and quiet with plans to make the stunning south-facing garden a peaceful sanctuary, complete with a koi fishpond. It’s also going to be wonderful for our cocker spaniel, Nutmeg, to have so many lovely walks on the doorstep.”

Natalie Griffiths, sales and marketing director at Harron Homes North Midlands, says: “We’re delighted that Ann and Paul have found not one dream Harron home, but two! We wish them a very happy retirement at Laughton Gate.”

Laughton Gate is located at Old Cotes Road, Throapham, Dinnington, S25 2QS.
