First-time buyers purchase off-plan in Greenwich

Posted 24 June 2016 by Helen Christie

Xavier Langlois and Tim Ellis have bought a one-bedroom apartment on the top floor of Charters Wharf, overlooking the dramatic skyline of the city from Greenwich...

First-time buyers Xavier and Tim made the decision to buy off-plan at Charters Wharf, a new development by Family Mosaic, earlier this year, and with a few months still to go before they move in they are looking forward to life in their new apartment.

“We’ve been renting in Soho for a long time and we wanted to take a step on the property ladder. Charters Wharf just felt like the perfect opportunity for us,” says Xavier, a 30-year-old solicitor. “We’ve lived in different parts of London over the years but never Greenwich, so now we’ll have the opportunity to discover an entirely different part of the city. We’ll be in new surroundings, a new apartment and this will be a new chapter in our lives together.”

Greenwich is one of the most historically significant areas in the world. Xavier and Tim will be surrounded by some of Britain’s most famous historical and maritime landmarks: Greenwich Royal Observatory, the Cutty Sark (one of the last Tea Clippers to be built in Great Britain), the Old Royal Naval College and the National Maritime Museum. The village market is another world-renowned attraction that offers a range of antiques, crafts and foods.

House prices in Greenwich have risen 21.8% up on last year in March and it is quickly becoming one of London’s best performing boroughs. Xavier and Tim purchased their one-bedroom apartment for £440,000 with a 10% deposit and it comes fully equipped with modern Bosch range appliances, classic flooring and fittings throughout.

The couple are particularly happy to be moving into a new build apartment. Tim adds: “It almost feels too good to be true, we’re so excited. We love the fact it is a new build property because it means we can put our own stamp on it and we love the idea of being the first people to live in our house. When you move into an older property it starts to become a project, but with this apartment we know that when we move in we can just drop our bags and make ourselves feel at home.”

Charters Wharf is well connected by regular National Rail, Underground and DLR services to the rest of London and beyond. Its close proximity to the Thames offers the opportunity to take the regular Thames Clipper and TfL River Bus services from Greenwich Pier, that both offer quick access to Tower Bridge Pier (19mins), Blackfriars Pier (33mins) and Embankment (39mins).

Two-bedroom apartments at Charters Wharf start from £580,000.
