Elizabeth Ramos De Freitas and her husband Heber have secured their first home at Barratt's Greenland Place development in Deptford thanks to Help to Buy

Freelance fashion stylist and blogger Elizabeth Ramos De Freitas, 25, and her husband Heber recently purchased their first home at Barratt London’s Greenland Place, thanks to Help to Buy.

After years of renting, the couple purchased a three-bedroom apartment on the third floor for £540,000 by securing a 20% equity loan from the government of £108,000.

Elizabeth was already renting at Barratt London’s Fulham Riverside and was keen to get on the property ladder, and reassured by her current renting situation, she decided to research where Barratt London offered Help to Buy.

She discovered Greenland Place in Deptford, London SE8, which ticked all the boxes for the young couple and meant they did not need to compromise on location, size or price.

Elizabeth said: “Heber had lived in Canada Water previously, and we both really like the area. We saw Greenland Place on Barratt London’s website, and as soon as we went to see it we knew it was right for us.”

Designed by RMA Architects, Greenland Place houses 562 new homes across five low rise buildings, one 19-storey and one 22-storey tower within a series of perimeter blocks, mews, courtyards and squares set amongst landscaped gardens. The development is situated close to the historic Greenland Docks in an area that is undergoing significant investment, bringing new leisure facilities, shops and an improved public realm.

Elizabeth’s work takes her all over London and Heber commutes to Mayfair, so excellent transport links were a key consideration for them. Greenland Place is just a short walk from the Surrey Quays DLR station that connects commuters to the Jubilee line at Canada Water Underground Station in just a few minutes, offering rapid links to London Bridge, Canary Wharf and Bond Street. Historical Greenwich can also easily be reached by bus or via the Thames clipper service from Greenland Pier.

Elizabeth commented: “It’s great being so close to the river and we have an amazing view of Canary Wharf. There is a big Tesco, a gym and Southwark Park all within walking distance which is really convenient and we also love going to the O2 arena, which is just round the corner!”

Residents can also make use of Greenland Pier that provides clipper services to Canary Wharf Pier, the O2 arena and beyond. The nearest cycle route, part of the Lewisham Cycle Network, runs along the bank of the River Thames via Deptford Wharf and Deptford Strand to the east of the site. Evelyn Street has been identified as part of the London Mayor’s planned Cycle Superhighway.

Most of the homes at Greenland Place have a private balcony or terrace, and residents also have use of the development’s landscaped courtyards with water features. Greenland Place also includes a residents only fitness suite, 24-hour concierge service and cycle storage.

A particular selling point for Elizabeth was the size and layout of the apartment. She comments: “We have a large master bedroom and use the second and third bedrooms as a closet and an office, which suits the nature of my work as I do a lot of it from home. We even have a spacious hallway which is something our previous homes have lacked. As well as our own private balcony, we’ve also got access to a communal garden which is a lovely place to eat when it’s warm.”

Elizabeth said: “The whole buying process only took one month and the only reason we didn’t move in straight away was because our previous contract wasn’t up yet – we didn’t expect it to happen so quickly! The Barratt sales staff were great and always on hand whenever we needed them. They even provided a handyman to help us with the actual move, which was really helpful.”

Helsinki Court is latest phase to be released at Greenland Place with prices starting from £326,000 for a one-bedroom apartment.
