Room To Grow For Family In Ross On Wye

Posted 27 July 2022 by Helen Christie

Amatuer drone photographer William Henderson has gone from snapping pictures of the progress of a new community in Ross on Wye to living there…

William, wife Sophie and their daughters Poppy, 5, and Ffion, 3, have moved into a three-bedroom Wye style property at St Mary’s Garden Village, an Edenstone Group development.

“We’d known about St Mary’s Garden Village from when it was in the planning stages,” William recalls. “I used to drive past every day on my way to work and took pictures of the site in its infancy with my drone. When I took the first picture in July 2020 I didn’t even know I would be moving here. It’s nice to have that documentation of how the neighbourhood is taking shape including where our house wasn’t.”

The family had outgrown the maisonette they’d been living in and were keen to move to somewhere bigger.

“We’ve watched our home take shape from before it had windows and doors,” William adds.

Last summer, before they moved in, the family attended a garden party at St Mary’s Garden Village.

“It gave us a chance to meet other people living here, plus there’s a Facebook group for residents and residents to be, helping people get to know each other and put names to faces,” William explains.

In their old home, they didn’t have easy access to a garden. Now they have a garden, plus they’ve taken on a raised allotment bed where they can grow their own produce.

William continues: “We signed up for an allotment as soon as they became available. We want to get the girls interested in growing their own crops and understand more about where their food comes from without having to sacrifice any of the garden. They will love it when their crops start growing.”

He adds: “They love the fact that the play area is just across the street. They are really happy living here.”

William admits he was initially against the idea of living in a new build home but was quickly won over when he visited St Mary’s Garden Village, which is being shaped by Bluebell Homes and Edenstone Homes, both part of the Edenstone Group.

He says: “I try and encourage people to move here when they say they are

looking to move in Ross. We’re super happy with the quality of the build. There will always be issues with any property, but the main thing is that they’re rectified. The site manager is always on hand to help. In our first weekend there was a stormy wind and the gate blew off and before we’d had chance to report it the site manager had spotted it. It was fixed by lunchtime.”

Software test analyst William, 29, and sales assistant Sophie, 30, used a Shared Ownership scheme to purchase their home. A new phase of Shared Ownership properties is due to be released for sale this summer.

There is currently a choice of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes available, with prices starting from £242,500.
