U-Turn On New Builds For Family In Leighton Buzzard

Posted 4 September 2023 by Helen Christie

A family have moved to David Wilson Homes’ Clipstone Park development after vowing never to buy another new build…

Kelly Hinds, her husband Tristen, two children Dexter and Scarlett, and their miniature dachshund Dash, moved to the Clipstone Park development in June last year, after previously vowing never to move to a new build again.

Kelly and her family bought a new build home with a different developer in the town in 2015 and had what Kelly describes “a stressful 18-months where a range of problems needed to be addressed with the quality of the house.” This soured Kelly and her husband’s experience of buying a new home, and they had been anti-development in the town ever since.

In need of more space, the family began house hunting and amidst a turbulent housing market, they sold their previous home to lock in a buyer and moved into a rental property whilst continuing their hunt for the ‘perfect’ home. After a few months, the family, on a whim, decided to take a look around a show home at David Wilson Homes’ Clipstone Park development where they immediately fell in love with a detached four-bedroom home.

Kelly, global head of operations for a promotional marketing company, comments: “When looking at buying a property at Clipstone Park, we made the team very aware of our previous negative experiences with other housebuilders and our concerns when trusting to put our faith into a new build home again. We were very conscious about large developments due to the issues we have had previously, therefore consulted heavily with the sales advisors before making our decision.

“I am very thankful to David Wilson North Thames for helping us make our decision to move an exciting one and that they took the time to clear up any queries that we had throughout this process. Both of my children attend schools nearby, one is at Cedars Upper School about to start Sixth Form, and the other will be moving to Vandyke Upper School which is an OFSTED rated ‘Good’ and is set to expand in September. The children have always had a positive experience at the schools in Leighton Buzzard and have thrown themselves into lots of different extra-curricular activities that the school and other clubs offer.”

Clipstone Park also stood out to the Hinds family thanks to the sheer enormity of green space, with 75% of the wider consortium dedicated to green open spaces in the form of parks, play areas and allotments.

Kelly adds: “As soon as we saw the amenities for families, such as parks for Scarlett and footpaths for walks, we instantly knew that our family would feel comfortable at this development. We believe that David Wilson Homes has really invested in this development and taken the time to think about what is needed to live a happy life. Green spaces are very important to us and allows us to bond as a family after work and on the weekends, as well as taking Dash on lengthy walks, so to have this area on our doorstep is a huge bonus and we couldn’t be happier.

“The decision to buy a new build again was certainly not the easiest, however we were quickly seeing the positives when we realised how energy efficient the new home would be, which would mean savings on our energy bills, and how simple it would be to move without any chain. We only moved from across the other side of Leighton Buzzard, but the difference in our lifestyle now is staggering. We have found that older developments and Victorian style streets in the town haven’t had the same quality of investment, but we feel Clipstone Park has everything you could ever need. So much so, my son has just recently taken his first step onto the career ladder with a part-time job at the local garden centre which is a five-minute walk away!”

Marc Woolfe, director of sales at David Wilson North Thames comments: “As a sustainable and respectable housebuilder, it is of the utmost importance that the surrounding areas of our developments are fit for families and the residents. When we build, we build for the future and for the people around the area. Just as a most recent example, the wider consortium has used Section 106 funding to provide free buses for six months in the town, meaning public transport is accessible for all. We welcome all types of buyers at our developments, and we are especially glad to hear that the Hinds family have restored confidence in new build homes and modern housing developments.”

The development will also offer a range of facilities on-site once the latest phase is complete, which will include a neighbourhood centre with local shops and new schools.

Currently available at Clipstone Park is a collection of three- and four-bedroom homes, with prices starting from £385,000 for a three-bedroom house.
