Young Downsizer Buys At Tunbridge Wells Development

Posted 18 March 2022 by Helen Christie

Matt Bogis opted to downsize from a two-bedroom house to a one-bedroom apartment at 1887 The Pantiles from Dandara…

According to a study by Resolution Foundation, young people in the UK are four times more likely to be planning to ‘downsize’ than those over the age of 55, but rather than giving up precious space, it’s all about keeping costs lower.

Tax advisor Matt Boggis, 30, did exactly this, opting to downsize to a one-bedroom apartment at the highly sought after 1887 The Pantiles development from Dandara in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

Matt was able to make his move to a better-quality build at 1887 The Pantiles by selling his two-bedroom house in Crowborough where he lived for three years. The sale from his previous home enabled him to put a 15% deposit down on his apartment at the development which he bought for £315,000. Matt comments, “I grew up in Crowborough and have always loved the area, so when it came to moving, I was keen to stay local. I noticed Dandara’s new development when I was out with my friends in Tunbridge Wells. The modern architecture that complimented the surroundings really stood out to me.”

Matt continues: “The apartment has a luxurious feel to it as soon as you step through the door. On top of the superb location, the amenities and underground parking were all extra bonuses.”

Situated on the edge of the iconic Pantiles, the development offers the best of Tunbridge Wells, combining its historic and pedestrianised setting with tasteful architecture. The development offers a selection of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments as well as two-bedroom mews homes.

The homes at 1887 The Pantiles have been finished with fully fitted German kitchens and Amtico Spacia vinyl flooring. The properties come complete with the latest central heating and hot water systems plus high-grade double-glazing.

Residents benefit from a purpose-designed outdoor cultural space, where they can come together to enjoy live performances and events at The Pantiles. The development aims to restore a passion for music, art, and fashionable entertainment in the area by celebrating its namesake. Residents can also benefit from concierge services, underground parking, a resident’s reception, and stylish landscaped communal gardens.

Matt adds: “I’ve always known I wanted to stay local to Tunbridge Wells as the area is young and lively. Being close to events such as Jazz on The Pantiles and the Tunbridge Wells Christmas markets really added to the appeal of the development and the space is a great place to socialise with my friends and family.”

Just five-minutes from the development, Tunbridge Wells train station benefits from frequent trains to Kent, Sussex, and the coast. For journeys to the capital, trains depart frequently and take just 55 minutes to London Charing Cross. Ashford International (Eurostar) is less than an hour away, with the Channel Tunnel and ferry services via Dover, less than 90 minutes.

Matt continues: “I truly feel that I get the best of both words at 1887 The Pantiles, as I can walk out of my door and be in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or catch a train from Tunbridge Wells station and be in London in under an hour – I love the flexibility of the location.”

Louise Norman, associate sales and marketing director at Dandara South East, comments: “Our 1887 The Pantiles development marks the beginning of the revival of the area and is bringing in more young buyers and downsizers just like Matt who want to be part of a lively cultural centre. The location is ideally suited to those who want to be near beautiful green spaces whilst also living a short journey away from London.”

Properties at the development start at £498,000 for a two-bedroom apartment, and £590,000 for a Mews home.
