Professional Couple Upsize In Medway with Assisted Move

A couple who have been commuting into London for work from Kent for a number of years were able to upsize to a brand new home in a well-connected town thanks to a housebuilder’s Assisted Move scheme.

Andrew and Lauren Lyons previously lived in a three-bedroom semi-detached house in the Medway suburb of Wigmore and, after a rigorous search, opted for a new four-bedroom, end-of-terrace house at Countryside’s landmark development, Rochester Riverside.

Countryside’s Assisted Move scheme has the housebuilder organising the sale of their previous home, receiving three independent valuations and connecting them with an estate agent to ensure the sale of the house goes as smoothly as possible, allowing the couple to get on with their busy lives.

Andrew said: “We looked at many different properties, but Countryside’s specification was the best, plus we liked the fact that the house came with a garage and side access via a gate – not many new-builds benefit from this feature.”

Andrew and Lauren were also impressed with the layout of the house, which is much more generous than that of their previous home.

“We absolutely love our spacious open-plan kitchen and living area, perfect for entertaining, allowing us to socialise with guests whilst cooking. Other reasons why we chose this house were the double bedrooms and generous storage space, which are so important to us as we start to think about growing our family” said Lauren.

Rochester appeals to professional couples because, as we saw in our recent in-depth look at the Medway Towns, it has a variety of well-rated schools within its catchment area – an important consideration for Lauren and Andrew in the near future.

Andrew said: “I grew up in Rochester, so I knew it has a wide range of good schools to choose from. Having spent a lot of time here as a child, I knew it was the right place to bring up a family because of its community feel and a generally more relaxed lifestyle.”

By 2021, Rochester Riverside will have its own nursery and primary school, making it a great option for families.

The couple both have jobs in London, with Andrew working for a bank in the City and Lauren as head of compliance at a Mayfair-based property company. Connectivity played a big part in their decision, and they loved the fact that the development is a three-minute walk from the train station. There are frequent services from Rochester to the capital, with journey times of 37 minutes to London St Pancras on High Speed and 52 minutes to London Victoria.

Lauren said: “We were impressed by Rochester’s transport links and so, after viewing the show home, we knew the search was over. We were so determined to secure the house that we reserved it way before we had sold our previous home. By using Countryside’s Assisted Move scheme, we were able to sell our previous home quickly, which made the move easy and stress-free.”

Rochester Riverside is a growing community which is set to further develop in the next 12 years, with Countryside and Hyde New Homes will create a number of new amenities to complement the existing infrastructure. A hotel has just opened on site, with a new Co-op supermarket and coffee shop anticipated to open soon. In addition to providing new homes by unlocking what used to be an industrial site along the River Medway, Countryside and Hyde will create a play area and 2.5km river walkway.

Prices at Rochester Riverside start from £217,500 with Help to Buy available. Find out more at www.countrysideproperties.com.
